Core Competencies:

• On a large job site, construction superintendents typically supervise foremen, who in turn supervise the workers.
• On smaller sites, the superintendent may be the manager who instructs the workers directly.
• Supervision might involve assigning teams to specific jobs, providing training for new hires or directing workers on the order of tasks to be performed.
• Regardless of the level of direct supervision provided, it is normally the job of the construction superintendent to inspect work performed by employees, other contractors and sub-contractors.
• The construction superintendent must coordinate the activities of a variety of tradespeople, professionals and laborers.
• They may need to work closely with the architect or engineer who designed the project or the lawyer who is securing the zoning change needed for the project.
• Superintendents must plan work schedules so that conflicts do not occur, such as having a crane operator report before the item to be lifted has been fabricated or delivered.

Core Duties:

• Lead by example

• Lead the safety effort by being the #1 department safety advocate
• Assist in training other team members as needed
• Attend the in house preconstruction meeting
• Plan ahead for scheduling resource needs and communicate these with Project Manager
• Communicate material needs with Project Manager
• Coordinate bulk trucking needs in advance
• Maintain production goals for different areas of work
• Monitor the quality of work, including subcontractors
• Report issues with Project Manager in a timely manner
• Turn in all timesheets and reports to Project Manager as required
• Collect all material delivery tickets and turn in to Project Manager
• Complete work orders as soon as extra work has been performed and turn in to Project Manager
• Ensure jobsites and company property are kept in an orderly and safe manner
• Assist in gathering information for as-builts and project closeout documents
• Ensure the undercarriage on tracked machines are cleaned daily
• Communicate with crews on weather days to eliminate unnecessary travel
• Ensure all team members abide by company policy
• Be willing to go the extra mile with surges in workloads
• Communicate time away from work with your team leader and other team members with sufficient notice to make plans for changing personnel to focus on the priorities
• Willingness to work hours as required

• OSHA Supervisor Training
• Rigging
• First Aid/CPR
