Job Summary The Cardiovascular Technologist I is a professional without Cath Lab or interventional experience, trained to assist during diagnostic and therapeutic invasive cardiovascular procedures. They will train to assist the physician, operate specialized equipment safely and efficiently, and maintain sterile technique. The technologist assists the Cath/EP Lab Manager or Director in maintaining a safe environment and primarily interacts with adult patients aged 18 to 65 and geriatric patients over 65. They may participate in the Cath or EP call rotation once appropriately oriented and checked off on clinical and operational competencies. Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions Clinical Skills Will train to assist the physician in facility‑specific cardiovascular Cath and EP procedures. Will train to function in monitoring, scrubbing or circulating roles. Will use critical thinking skills. Works with interventional cardiologists, electrophysiologists and cardiologists. Will train to prep and educate patients for procedures. Demonstrates and understands sterile technique. Job Responsibilities Must be flexible with hours to meet departmental needs. Able to work scheduled and Cath Lab on‑call hours when allowed. Knows existing lines of communication and authority. Handles communications properly. Introduces self to patient or guardian using appropriate scripting such as AIDET. Transports patients as needed. Provides privacy and comfort for patients/customers. Assists with maintenance of departmental records, Joint Commission standards, State and Federal Regulations and Performance Improvement. Learns how to enter data into Cath Lab log and verify accuracy and completeness. Completes necessary paperwork. Answers departmental phone using appropriate scripting. Maintains stock levels and checks expiration dates. Maintains current license and BLS/ACLS certifications. Works as a team with other Cath/EP Lab staff to achieve optimal outcomes. Performs any other duties as needed when asked by leadership. Prepares necessary supplies and equipment for procedures. Quality and Patient Safety Verifies patient ID using two identifiers such as armband, date of birth, or verbal ID. Verifies front of patient chart for same/similar name stickers. Verifies written order and consent; seeks clarification if unclear. Uses and understands preprocedural verification/Time Out process. Understands and complies with site/side marking when indicated. Patient Education Will train to provide education to patients, families, and support systems. Will train to teach patients about their procedure, including preparation for future procedures or transfer to another facility. Will train to provide post‑procedural home care instructions as needed. Performs other duties as assigned. Complies with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct. Required Minimum Education Associate’s degree in Health Science, or Accredited Program in Radiologic Science (Preferred) Bachelor’s degree in Health Science (Preferred) Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s) ACLS – Advanced Cardiac Life Support (or ARC‑ALS, ACLS‑Instructor, or ACLS‑Provisional within 180 days)(All required upon hire unless otherwise stated) BLS – Basic Life Support (or ARC‑BLS or BLS‑Instructor) Required Minimum Experience One year of relevant medical experience (LPN, RT, EMT/Paramedic) may be used in lieu of formal education. Graduate of a CVT program. Work experience in a medical setting. Required Minimum Skills Basic knowledge of cardiovascular Cath or electrophysiology procedures, patient positioning, exposure factors and radiation protection. Required special/advanced procedure registry as outlined above. Basic knowledge of electrocardiography, coronary heart disease, cardiac anatomy and physiology preferred, with EKG interpretation. Basic knowledge of hemodynamics, intracardiac electrograms and electrophysiology equipment. Ability to react quickly to emergency patient care situations. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with employees, patients, families, and physicians. Ability to communicate and understand verbal and written English.
