IT Cybersecurity - Cyber Protection Team Operations Officer

The Air Force Civilian Service (AFCS) is looking for a full‑time Supervisory Information Technology (IT) Cybersecurity Specialist, Cyber Protection Team Operations Officer (GG‑2210‑14), working at the 837th Cyberspace Operations Squadron (COS), Scott Air Force Base (AFB), Belleville, Illinois. This position is a Cyber Excepted Service (CES) position implemented under Section 1599F, Title 10 United States Code (USC). It requires a 3‑year probationary period for new federal government appointments and applies to Veterans’ Preference per DoDI 1400.25, Volume 3005. Salary: $133,233 – $182,092 (based on experience). Relocation expenses may be paid. This position may close at any time. It requires U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI security clearance. Responsibilities As Cyber Protection Team (CPT) Operations Officer, you will oversee and manage the execution of cyberspace policies, missions, and functions supporting tasked Service, Combatant Command and National Agency partners. You will provide professional and IT expertise in cyber security principles, methods, and techniques; serve as a senior‑skill‑level defensive cyberspace operations technical expert; and support the Air Force’s cyberspace mission force objectives. Responsibilities include: Planning, research, design, development, test, evaluation, integration, acquisition, dissemination, sustainment, modification, and/or emulation of threats to complex cyber and weapon systems. Guidance and assistance to the Squadron Commander in development, acquisition, and implementation of technology, procedures, and defensive cyber operations. Lead the CPT to ensure effective communication, resource management, and adherence to operational and administrative requirements for mission assurance and information assurance of critical key cyber terrain and mission areas. Supervise, mentor, and develop CPT civilians. Qualifications and Requirements Current or past Cyber Protection Team experience. Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience. Information Assurance Level III certification within 6 months of assignment. Drug Test Designated Position. No history of domestic violence. Must obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI clearance. Must be a member of the U.S. Citizen Legal Workforce. Achievement of Cyber Mission Force (CMF) requirements and Combat Mission Ready (CMR) certification within 18 months. Highly Desired Expert knowledge of COMSEC, COMPUSEC, EMSEC, and OPSEC, computer systems, digital communications systems, network protocols, and computer architectures. Expert knowledge of penetration tools and techniques. Knowledge of agency, Air Force (AF), Department of Defense (DoD) and national‑level doctrine, regulations, policies, guidelines, requirements, and initiatives. Knowledge of wide range of IT management information systems requirements. Advanced skill in identifying, analyzing, articulating, and executing program goals and objectives. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective relationships, negotiating complex issues, and resolving conflicts.
