Our team works together to ensure every patient receives professional, compassionate, and efficient service throughout their eye care experience.Job SummaryThe Licensed Optician is responsible for providing patients with professional optical services, including interpreting prescriptions, taking measurements, assisting with frame and lens selection, dispensing eyewear, making adjustments and repairs, and ensuring a high level of patient satisfaction.Essential Job FunctionsInterpret prescriptions written by ophthalmologists and optometrists.Take accurate optical measurements, including pupillary distance, segment height, base curve, width, and thickness.Assist patients in selecting appropriate frames based on facial structure, prescription, lifestyle, and personal preferences.Educate patients on lens materials, progressive lenses, lens treatments, and other available optical options.Recommend appropriate lens materials and treatments based on the patient's prescription and needs.Troubleshoot and resolve patient concerns related to vision and eyewear.Neutralize and inspect prescription lenses for accuracy using a lensometer.Identify wanted and unwanted prism according to the written prescription.Verify insurance benefits and assist patients with understanding their available optical benefits and out-of-pocket costs.Prepare and submit laboratory orders accurately to ensure proper lenses are produced.Adjust eyeglasses to provide patients with a proper and comfortable fit.Perform minor frame repairs when appropriate.Educate patients on proper eyeglass and contact lens care.Maintain accurate records of orders, prescriptions, and optical inventory.Maintain a clean, organized, and professional optical area.Provide excellent customer service and contribute to a positive patient experience.Follow all applicable laws, regulations, company policies, and professional standards.CompetenciesStrong knowledge of optical materials, methods, instruments, and equipment.Demonstrated ability to read, write, and perform basic mathematical calculations.Knowledge of progressive and other specialty lens options.Knowledge of nonglare, polarized, and other lens treatments.Knowledge of lens material options and their appropriate applications.Ability to accurately measure, fit, adjust, and dispense eyewear.Ability to use a lensometer and other optical equipment proficiently.Proficient computer skills.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.Ability to maintain patient confidentiality.Ability to multitask and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.Professional, dependable, and patient-focused approach.Supervisory ResponsibilitiesThis position does not have supervisory responsibilities.Work EnvironmentThis position is performed in a professional eye care and optical office environment. The Licensed Optician will interact regularly with patients, providers, clinical staff, optical laboratories, and other team members.
