Clinical Nurse II The Clinical Nurse II job demonstrates mastery of clinical skills and applies knowledge to a specific patient population. Assists the health care team with prevention of illness and injury, maintenance of wellness, and provision of comfort. Recognizes changes in patient situations and intervenes appropriately. Mobilizes resources to meet individualized needs of patients/families. Provides direction, education, and assumes leadership responsibilities at the unit level. Delivers and documents direct, age‑specific care based on medical orders and an integrated multidisciplinary plan of care. Safely administers prescribed medications, identifying incompatibilities and/or interactions. Clinical Nurse III The Clinical Nurse III job demonstrates clinical knowledge at the unit level and applies this knowledge to a specific patient population. Assists the health care team with prevention of illness and injury, maintenance of wellness, and provision of comfort. Anticipates changes in patient situations and intervenes appropriately. Provides direction, education, and serves as a role model. Delivers and documents direct, age‑specific care based on medical orders and an integrated multidisciplinary plan of care. Safely administers prescribed medications, identifying incompatibilities and/or interactions. Licensure and Certification Current RN licensure in Virginia or eligible compact state (Clin I, II, III). Current RN licensure in Virginia, AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent for continued employment (Clin I, II, III). Experience Clin I: N/A. Clin II: 12 to 24 months RN experience. Clin III: 3 years of clinical experience. Preferred: experience as an LPN, nursing assistant or care partner for Clin I; academic health care experience for Clin II & III. Education and Training Required: Diploma or Associate Degree from a professional nursing program recognized by the state's Board of Nursing. Required: All RNs without a Bachelor's degree must enroll in an approved RN to BSN program within two years and complete within five years unless grandfathered. Preferred: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or higher; Clin III: certification in a specialty area. Other Requirements Independent action: follows documented physician/licensed independent provider orders; practices within regulations of Virginia; guided by ANA Code of Ethics and national standards; follows VCUHS policies. Supervisory responsibilities: organizes work, delegates, and supervises others. Work schedule: all three shifts, weekends, and holidays (shift rotation and schedules with Nurse Manager); flexible schedule adjustments. Physical: lifts 20 lbs, exposure to hazardous substances, prolonged standing/sitting, bending, walking, climbing, reaching. Mental/Sensory: strong recall, reasoning, problem solving, hearing, speaking clearly, writing legibly, reading, logical thinking. Emotional: fast pace environment, steady pace, multiple priorities, frequent intense customer interactions, noisy environment. Age Specific Groups Served As appropriate based on unit assignment.
