Job Title and Location Full‑Time Medical Instrument Technician (Inpatient Hemodialysis) located in the Renal Hemodialysis Section within Perioperative Nursing Service, VA Northeast Ohio Healthcare System. Grade Determination GS‑09 Lead Medical Instrument Technician Hemodialysis. Experience At least 1 year of experience comparable to GS‑08 is required. This includes knowledge of complex procedures, pharmacology related to the occupation, acute disorders, and related treatment methods. Basic Requirements United States Citizenship. Non‑citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA policy. No specific educational requirements. Licensure or certification not required. English language proficiency: spoken and written English proficiency required. Physical requirements: visual acuity, keen hearing, clear speech, manual dexterity, and capacity to walk, stand, stoop, sit, bend, pull, push, and transfer patients and objects. Mechanical lifts are provided. See VA Directive and Handbook 5019. Preferred Experience 6 years of acute/chronic experience. Dialysis technician certification through the State of Ohio Board of Nursing (OCDT) or other state program. Certification as Hemodialysis Technician under a state or national certification program (NNCC, BONET, NNCO, ICC/USCC) is required. Certifications Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications are desirable. Hemodialysis Technician certification through the State of Ohio Board of Nursing (OCDT) or a national certification program (NNCC, BONET, NNCO, ICC/USCC) is required. Responsibilities Operate and monitor kidney dialysis instruments to provide dialysis treatment to patients with kidney failure or to maintain patients with irreversible kidney disorders. Perform both peritoneal and hemodialysis procedures, including machine maintenance and reverse osmosis system care. Assist physicians with percutaneous renal biopsies, peritoneal catheter insertions, and observe patients during procedures. Provide instruction to dialysis patients in home/self‑care and to physicians, nurses, and other personnel in dialysis procedures, equipment operation, and maintenance. Monitor patients for home dialysis home training and post‑operative care. Physical Requirements Visual acuity, keen hearing, clear speech, manual dexterity.
