Assistant Designer

Position Purpose 

The Assistant Designer is an entry-level full-time role designed for an individual seeking to begin a professional career in concert touring, live events, and creative design support. This position provides foundational exposure to studio operations, project workflow, and multidisciplinary design processes within Silent House Studios.

Working under the guidance of Designers, Associates and Partners, the Design Assistant supports backend project needs and develops practical experience through active participation in the creative process. The role is intended as a developmental position with a long-term path toward increased responsibility and future progression into an Associate Designer role.

Responsibilities 

Design and Project Support

• Provide day-to-day support to Designers and Partners across active design projects.
• Assist with assigned tasks that contribute to project organization, coordination, and internal execution; such as taking notes, Notion and project tracking, scheduling and broadcast updates.
• Support a variety of project types and creative disciplines as directed by the design team.

Internal Workflow Coordination

• Work closely with bullpen teams to assist with drafting, rendering, revisions, and related internal design support functions.
• Help route information, files, notes, and updates through the studio workflow in an organized manner.
• Contribute to the consistency and efficiency of internal project support processes.

Learning and Development

• Build working knowledge of the studio’s tools, communication practices, and production support systems.
• Develop a practical understanding of how creative concepts move through design development and into production preparation.
• Strengthen foundational professional skills through day-to-day execution, repetition, and guided learning.

Studio and Remote Collaboration

• Participate in team communication and project coordination through studio-based work and remote tools such as Slack and Zoom.
• Maintain a professional and responsive approach to assigned work, questions, and follow-up.
• Contribute positively to a collaborative environment centered on learning, support, and continuous improvement.

Career Progression

• Take on greater responsibility over time as experience, proficiency, and confidence increase.
• Build the technical and organizational skills needed to support broader project needs.
• Progress toward a future Associate Designer position through consistent performance and development.

Position Requirements

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Architectural Design, Architecture, Interior Design, Entertainment Design, Theatrical Design, Lighting Design, Fine Arts, Graphic Design, or a related design discipline, highly preferred.

Experience

• Experience in theatre, live events, concert touring, production, or related creative environments, highly preferred.
• May include college coursework, internships, freelance support, local production experience, or other early-stage practical exposure.
• Demonstrated interest in developing a long-term career in design for concert touring and live entertainment.

Capabilities & Attributes

• Organized, dependable, and able to follow direction while supporting multiple tasks and priorities.
• Strong interest in learning design process, production workflow, and cross-functional collaboration.
• Positive, coachable, and motivated to grow through practical experience and guided development.
• Clear communicator who is comfortable asking questions, receiving feedback, and applying direction.
• Working knowledge of Google Suite, Vectorworks, and Adobe Creative Suite.
• Basic familiarity with Cinema 4D, Depence, MA2, MA3, or comparable visualization and lighting software is preferred.
• Experience with TouchDesigner or similar creative technology tools is considered a plus.
• Interest in building the skills necessary to grow into a more independent and externally facing design support role over time.
• Availability for a full-time salaried role with a workload that may exceed 40 hours per week based on business needs.

Salary: $70,000 - $75,000 commensurate with experience
