Job Details Location: Deer Valley – 19829 N 27th Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85027 Category: Laboratory Services Shift: Night (7:00pm – 7:30am) Department: LAB Core Hours: Full-Time Sign-on Bonus Available Responsibilities The Medical Technologist is responsible for performing complex laboratory tests on blood, body fluids, cells, and tissues. Identify bacteria, parasites, and other microorganisms; analyze chemical content of fluids; and cross match blood for transfusion and aseptically prepare blood products. Use results for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. Prepare and perform a variety of laboratory tests in one or more sections of the laboratory to obtain laboratory results and data used for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. Ensure all testing is performed accurately and results are released as ordered within turnaround time expectations. Complete all required documentation, and follow up on all unusual and critical results as required by policy and procedure. Obtain, receive, and prepare specimens for analysis. Understand specimen factors that can affect accuracy of testing and maintain specimen integrity. Understand theory behind laboratory methods and operate various pieces of instrumentation. Perform instrument maintenance, calibrations, quality control, and troubleshoot questionable or unusual cases. Ensure compliance with all hospital, regulatory, safety, and accrediting agency requirements. Maintain continuing education and competency requirements as defined by laboratory policy and certification agency requirements. Proficient in hospital, laboratory and office computer systems. Assist, train and orient new staff and students in the lab disciplines as needed. Assume temporary leadership role in absence of supervisor. Assist in regulatory preparation. Maintain supply and reagent levels and practice cost containment. Perform other duties as assigned. Education Bachelor’s in medical technology, clinical laboratory, chemical, physical or biological science or HEW certificate with 4 years’ experience in lieu of degree. Required: Master’s in medical technology, clinical laboratory, chemical, physical or biological science. Preferred: Doctorate (PhD) in clinical laboratory science, chemical, physical or biological science. Experience 1 year hospital laboratory experience as Medical Technologist, Clinical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Laboratory Scientist. Preferred: 1 year experience for Network Float Pool. Licenses and Certifications Medical Technologist (AMT) – certification, MT or ASMT certification or accreditation by ASCP, HEW, AMT. Preferred: Additional certifications as applicable.
