Responsibilities The Journeyman 1‑Refrigeration is responsible for installing refrigeration systems in accordance with customer specifications, building codes, and proper piping practices. Support construction jobs by piping cooler boxes and refrigeration cases, including electrical wiring as required. Install pipe hangers as directed by the foreman. Assist with welding, slip hosing copper pipes, and provide general construction support. Hang cooler‑box coils and install or remodel supermarket refrigeration systems. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Education / Training High school diploma or GED, plus equivalent work experience and trade or technical school classes. EPA Certification (Type II). Work Experience / Skills 5+ years of construction industry experience, preferably in commercial refrigeration, electrical, and/or fixture construction. Experience with copper brazing and market remodeling. Good driving record. Knowledge of electrical systems and wiring installations. Knowledge of carpentry. Knowledge of refrigeration systems and piping. Knowledge of plumbing and pipe fittings, and ability to pipe refrigeration equipment. Ability to read blueprints for refrigeration, electrical, and plumbing. Ability to hang evaporator coils and install overhead hangers. Proficiency with hand and power tools and strong mechanical skills. Understanding of job‑site safety and ability to oversee safe work practices. Ability to work with minimal supervision. Understanding of company policies, procedures, and applicable State and Federal laws. Proficiency with typical business tools including e‑mail, Word, and Excel. Physical Demands and Work Environment The role requires active physical labor, excellent stamina, and the ability to perform strenuous tasks under adverse conditions. Workers must be able to walk, stand, lift up to 25 pounds (occasionally 50 pounds), and operate in noisy, high‑heat, or cold environments. Typical settings include convenience stores, grocery stores, food service, and construction sites with work at heights from ladders or scissor lifts. Exposure to refrigeration/HVAC equipment, extreme cold from refrigerant, and high heat from brazing operations may occur. Outdoor work in inclement weather, heat, humidity, and dust is common.
