Accountant Position

This specific position will be filled in Lanham, MD. Additional duty locations are listed for future vacancies and/or vacancies that may be filled throughout the Department of Commerce. You must apply to both announcements if you want to be considered for both. As an Accountant, you will perform the following duties:

1. Manage Construction in Progress (CIP) and Internal Use Software Development (IUSD) accounts by analyzing project activities, maintaining supporting documentation, and preparing capitalization packages
2. Respond to inquiries from internal and external auditors regarding compliance requirements. Ensure National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Department of Commerce (DOC), Office of Management and Budget (OMB), Government Accountability Office (GAO), and Federal Accounting Standards Advisory Board (FASAB) standards and policies are being met. Formulate and present financial reports. Research guidance and recommend appropriate accounting treatment for new and/or complex transactions.
3. Evaluate internal controls, identify weaknesses, design and implement corrective action plans to strengthen control environments to ensure financial data is presented accurately and fairly.
