Drug Enforcement Administration

Position Overview Criminal Investigator, GS-1811-7/9/11 – a multi‑grade announcement that offers strong potential for career growth and advancement. Motivated, detail‑oriented professionals with strong analytical, communication, and investigative skills are encouraged to apply. Responsibilities Conduct complex criminal investigations targeting narcotics and drug‑related activities. Prepare comprehensive investigative reports and deliver briefings to senior personnel and other federal, state, and local agencies. Identify and apprehend drug traffickers and individuals engaged in criminal drug activities. Gather and analyze evidence through investigative leads, seizures, arrests, execution of search warrants, and other means. Testify on behalf of the federal government in court or before grand juries. Qualifications Basic qualifications for GL‑07, GL‑09, or GL‑11 levels (depending on the specific grade selected): One year of specialized experience equivalent to the required grade level, including: Assisting in investigations of alleged or suspected violations of law; Collecting and analyzing investigative data; Writing reports and conducting briefings; Assisting prosecuting attorneys or testifying in court. Or, educational equivalence: graduate‑level education or superior academic achievement (SAA) as described in OPM guidelines. Additional qualifications: U.S. citizenship. Ability to obtain and maintain a Top‑Secret security clearance. Valid state driver’s license. Mobility agreement for relocation. Pass medical clearance and polygraph exam. Age 21–36 (dependent on veteran status). Registration with Selective Service (for eligible males). Completion of required physical, medical, and training requirements. Conditions of Employment Must obtain and maintain a Top‑Secret security clearance. Sign a mobility agreement for relocation. Undergo a pre‑employment medical and polygraph examination. Serve a 1‑ or 2‑year trial period with eligibility for clarification of continued employment. Maintain a valid state driver’s license and be subject to random drug testing. Must possess firearms qualification and comply with the Lautenberg Amendment. Eligibility for benefits and compensation as per federal policy.
