Job Summary for RN - MedSurg/Tele (List Format):


- Work in a 207-bed hospital; not a trauma or teaching facility; designated Chest Pain and Stroke Center.
- Assigned to Medical Telemetry (3N) unit with 31 beds; home unit assigned during orientation.
- Patient population includes: End-stage renal disease, peritoneal dialysis, fluid overload, sickle cell, diabetes, altered mental status, cellulitis, diabetic ulcers, pancreatitis, behavioral health.
- Typical nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:5-6; may increase to 1:7-8 during critical surges.
- Required experience: Minimum 18 months Med/Tele RN experience; first-time travelers considered but not preferred.
- Licensure/Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS.
- Required skills: Stroke care, cardiac rhythm interpretation, trach care, PIV starts, chest tube management, NGT placement, drain/tube management, PCA pump operation, cardiac drips, heparin/blood product/IV fluid administration.
- Department support includes: CNA, receptionist/HUC, charge nurse, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, resource nurse, respiratory therapist (24/7), hospitalist (24/7), intensivist (ICU coverage), no dedicated telemetry technician.
- Technology: Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell med dispensing, Phillips monitors.
- Floating required to all units and facilities within assigned region, as needed, per scope of practice; paid for travel time if floating mid-shift.
- Orientation: NEO plus 2 days of departmental training.
- Schedule: Every other weekend; no call; must work 75% of holidays; up to 6 days RTO (excl. holidays); schedule cycle every 6 weeks.
