Leads a team of Software Engineers and Developers to enhance the functionality of our fitness equipment while partnering with Project Engineering, Product Marketing, Graphical UX/UI, Web Development, and Design Quality Assurance teams. Leading by example, the ideal candidate will leverage sound technical knowledge to improve products and processes while guiding and inspiring team members. Has a strong capability to anticipate and resolve engineering development challenges early and effectively. Blends solid engineering skill and personnel leadership excellence.RESPONSIBILITIESPersonnel:Assists R&D leadership team in attracting and hiring top engineering talentProvides work direction to lower-level engineers, trains and mentors staff in product development processesUnderstands and coaches team members to follow existing coding conventions, and to identify and use design patternsCoaches engineers in striving to achieve 100% KPI scoreProduct Development: Product Specification review and communication with various marketing and factory staff to set the development planTranslation of product requirements into actionable technical development tasksAssist PM's & engineering staff in working through any roadblocks to deliveryMonitors resource use by participating in project sign-offs at critical stage-gatesLead communication window for technical development teams between America and AsiaSoftware Development:Establish, implement, and update processes and workflows to meet customer needs and optimize team efficiencySupport scalable systems that meet business requirementsCoordinate with internal and external entities, as needed, to accomplish goalsEnforce code standards and development best practicesLead team meetings and coordinate with other functional leadersRepresent the global software R&D team, its projects, and deliverables at all global development status reviewsR&D-as-one-team method for all development, testing, and customer/end-user support. No-excuse approach in working alongside all global web, design quality assurance, hardware, and related development teams.Peer-to-peer leadership, knowledge sharing, and implementing integrated development practices with global product development teams and factories.Production Support: Review quality and test data, perform product sample reviews and make design decisions, support value-add / value-engineer opportunities for cost and manufacturing efficiencyTrain Asia-based engineering and factory quality teams on design and functional requirementsSupport systems, resolve outages, and be on-call during non-standard business hoursManagement: Engages in the typical responsibilities of a manager, requiring planning, evaluating, organizing, integrating, and controllingSupervisory: Responsible for staffing, terminations, disciplinary actions, training, and developing subordinatesResponsible for completing adequate performance documentation on timeResponsible for ensuring the accuracy of timecards and approving them promptlyMarginal Job Functions:Other projects as needed.RequirementsEducation:4-year degree in relevant field (Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience)Advanced degree in Engineering is a plusExperience:1-5 years of managerial experience, being directly responsible for the work of others5 years of object-oriented programming in a language such as C++, C# or Java; UI based application development; scripting languages such as Python or Javascript5 years of experience with built-in and integration unit testing, writing, or editing technical documentationDemonstrated leadership abilities through a record of successKnowledge of MCU and ARM Embedded System DevelopmentAbility to read and understand patentsOther Requirements:Ability and willingness to travel both internationally and domestically, communicate with overseas teams during non-business hoursAbility to work well with numerous diverse groups and individualsAbility to lead and inspire a team of engineersExcellent written and verbal communication skillsTravel Requirements:A valid driver’s license is required for travelThis position will be required to travel up to 30% of the time.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENTWork EnvironmentThis position will require working on-site.
