Job DescriptionResponsibilities/Job Description\nFairview is looking for a Laboratory Care Technician atM Health Fairview St. John's Hospitalin Maplewood,MN.\n\n This is a part-time, benefit-eligible position with a 0.6 FTE schedule (48 hours per two-week pay period). Hours are evening shifts from 1:30pm-10:00pm, with every other weekend and rotating holiday requirements. Initial training will be full-time for approximately 4 to 5 weeks, Monday through Friday, from 5:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. before transitioning to the regular schedule.\n\n\nThe laboratory atM Health Fairview St. John's Hospitalin Maplewood, MN is a state-of-the-art facility offering a broad range of diagnostic services, including hematology, chemistry, microbiology, immunology, and molecular diagnostics. The LCT performs laboratory specimen collection at various M Health Fairview or outreach locations, as well as provides for safe and secure specimen handling and point of care testing. Responsible for accurately entering orders and collection information into the Laboratory Information System and associated subsystems; monitoring computer logs for incomplete work; scheduling tests/procedures and providing results in LIS/HIS and over the phone, the LCT's attention to detail and accuracy are the foundation for our providing quality laboratory services. Working as an individual or team member, the LCT continuously works towards providing quality service improvement and optimum support to the department and team members in achieving M Health Fairview's goals.Responsibilities\n\n Follows established guidelines to obtain biological specimens and perform procedures.\n Collects biological specimens with appropriate technique following established Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)\n Performs phlebotomy at various sites and communicates special handling needs of the specimen.\n Uses appropriate communications skills to meet patient/family and other customer needs.\n Demonstrates proficiency with point of care testing and/or waived testing.\n May perform EKG’s.\n May train others in phlebotomy skills.\n Ensures specimens are acceptable for testing including properly identified.\n Processes specimens prior to testing or sending to reference labs.\n Performs daily quality control, troubleshooting and equipment maintenance.\n Monitors inventory, ordering and restocking supplies.\n Mentors and teaches students.\n Prioritizes work to achieve optimal patient outcomes.\n Prioritizes assigned work.\n Transports blood and body fluid under proper conditions and in a timely and safe manner.\n Seeks assistance appropriately for problem or unusual situations.\n Information Processing\n Accurately enters and releases order and collection information into LIS and subsystems.\n Monitors computer logs for incomplete work.\n Schedules tests/procedures.\n Provides results in LIS/HIS and reports over the phone.\n Acquires additional computer skills as appropriate to the work area.\n Supports and adheres to laboratory quality assurance program.\n Maintains a safe work environment.\n Adheres to safety protocols.\n Follows infection control guidelines.\n Responds appropriately to emergent situations.\n\nRequired Qualifications\n\n Minimum age (18 years)\n Completion of a formal phlebotomy education program or\n Completion of three months of full-time clinical phlebotomy and laboratory experience or\n Enrollment in MLT or MLS program including completion of a phlebotomy course.\n Demonstrate competence and proficient skills in collecting blood samples.\n Successful customer service background within a diverse cultural setting.\n Demonstrate the ability to work under stress in a variety of situations.\n Demonstrate ability to exercise independent judgment.\n Demonstrate manual dexterity.\n\nPreferred Qualifications\n\n Prior laboratory experience in a hospital or clinic setting in a similar capacity.\n\nQualifications$21.84- $30.83 Hourly
