SUMMARY:Performs skilled gardening/horticultural tasks and manual work necessary to maintain university properties.QUALIFICATIONS:Strong verbal communication and listening skillsProficient in English written and verbal communication skillsHighly thorough and dependablePractical knowledge and/or training in gardening and horticultural practices and proceduresPractical knowledge and/or training in the pruning, trimming, watering fertilization and pest control of lawns, shrubs, trees, etc.Knowledge of the safe use and operation of hand and power tools used in groundskeepingExercises behavior in accordance with university policies, the Facilities Missions and statement of Core Values; and complies with safety standards and demonstrates safe work habitsIntermediate Virginia pesticide license, within 90 daysRequired: Must have a valid Driver's License and be able to produce a driving record with a minimum of 3 years of driving history in good standingEDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:H.S. Diploma or GED requiredAssociate's degree Horticulture or related field preferred2-4 years prior gardening and landscape maintenance and/or training at a college, university, county, city or commercial facilityWORK HOURS:Full-time; non-exemptMonday-Friday 6:30AM-3:00PM, however, flexibility is required.All facilities employees are designated as essential personnel, are subject to work outside the normal work schedule on an emergency basis and are also subject to planned overtime work as required by the immediate supervisorSALARY STRUCTURE:Grade 3 Hourly ($17.61 to $21.13 per hour) #J-18808-Ljbffr
