GRANTS SPECIALIST

Summary This position is responsible for researching, writing and coordinating the grant application process; managing proposals, drafting timely reports, and maintaining grants activity within the organization’s database. The role supports both remote and in‑person work. Grants Specialist The Grants Specialist writes, develops, and reports high‑quality grant proposal narratives, applications, and supporting documents. They coordinate and strategize an overall grants management plan aligned with agency program development in close collaboration with the Chief Executive Officer, Chief Financial Officer and Program Directors to support Imua Family Services and our business priorities. Key responsibilities include: Developing and managing an annual grants strategy that aligns with the organization’s overall funding goals. Conducting prospect research to identify, cultivate, and solicit new grants; reporting findings to the CEO and CFO. Coordinating proposal submission processes and ensuring timely delivery of all required materials. Managing the reporting process to ensure compliance with each grant’s requirements. Maintaining accurate data on all grant activities and providing regular updates to program directors. Assisting program directors in applying for, writing, and submitting grants and funding opportunities. Collaborating with the CFO to create necessary budget information for grant submissions and reports. Ensuring compliance with all grant reporting obligations required by foundation and corporate donors. Supporting funders with newsletters, updates, and on‑site tours. Qualifications Education and/or Experience Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree or equivalent from an accredited college/university. Minimum of 3 years of grant writing, fund development, and non‑profit work experience. Language Skills Ability to read, write, and comprehend complex instructions and correspondence. Ability to present information effectively one‑on‑one and in groups to clients, partners, agency personnel, and board members. Reasoning Ability Ability to apply common‑sense understanding to carry out detailed written and oral instructions. Ability to apply problem‑solving skills in variable situations. Computer Skills Proficient in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Bloomerang (or comparable nonprofit CRM), Grants.gov Workspace, Adobe Acrobat. Preferred: Foundation Directory Online, Candid, Instrumentl, Submittable, Foundant, project management tools (Asana, Monday, or Trello), and AI‑assisted research and drafting tools. Knowledge of networking and server use for electronic file management. Physical Demands The employee is regularly required to drive, walk, sit, communicate, and listen to families and other agencies. The employee must reach, stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, lift (up to 25 lbs), and have manual dexterity for filing and typing. Specific vision requirements include close vision and focus adjustment. Specifics that may be required depending on the child’s needs Potential stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, speaking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions. Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 lbs occasionally, up to 20 lbs frequently, or up to 10 lbs constantly to move objects, occasionally up and down stairs. Use of CPI or other formal child restraints as necessary to maintain safety when encountering extreme challenging behaviors. Travel Required to travel within Maui County and across the Hawaiian Islands for meetings, seminars, and training. Mainland travel may be required. Work may occur in various environments, including business offices, homes, daycare or classroom settings, and community settings.
