Position Summary The AVP, Major Giving plays a central leadership role in advancing VHC Health Foundation’s evolution toward a highly intentional, relationship-centered, and performance-driven major gifts program. This role blends frontline fundraising, strategic leadership, and partnership with senior executives to help translate VHC Health’s clinical excellence and long-term vision into compelling philanthropic opportunities. The AVP, Major Giving serves as a trusted thought partner to the Foundation President and works closely with executive and physician leaders to shape strategy, strengthen discipline, and elevate the overall effectiveness of major gift fundraising. Reports to: Foundation President Key Responsibilities – Strategy, Leadership, and Program Development Serves as a strategic partner to the Foundation President in shaping major gifts strategy, donor prioritization, and campaign readiness. Helps guide the Foundation’s evolution toward a more intentional, metrics-informed major gifts program. Establishes and reinforces standards for portfolio management, qualification, solicitation readiness, and donor movement. Supports planning for major initiatives, capital priorities, and multi-year philanthropic strategies. Collaborates closely with clinical, operational, and executive leaders to align fundraising strategy with institutional priorities. Manages a portfolio of approximately 75–100 high-capacity donors and prospects, primarily at the $100,000+ level. Achieves annual fundraising goals set by the Foundation President. Leads cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of leadership and transformational gifts. Develops and executes multi-year engagement strategies for top prospects. Partners with physicians and senior leaders in donor meetings, proposal development, and stewardship. Team Leadership and Coaching Supervises, mentors, and supports the Senior Gift Officer, Major Giving, the Medical Staff Liaison, and other frontline staff as the team grows. Promotes disciplined portfolio management, strategic planning, and accountability. Provides coaching on donor strategy, solicitation planning, and relationship management. Fosters a culture that values preparation, follow-through, collaboration, and sound judgment. Systems, Reporting, and Collaboration Ensures accurate use of the CRM for tracking donor activity, moves management, and forecasting. Collaborates with the Foundation President and Operations Manager in determining an appropriate gift tracking/credit policy and ensuring effective implementation and tracking. Reviews pipeline health, portfolio balance, and performance metrics on a regular basis. Collaborates with Annual Giving, Corporate and Foundation Relations, and Planned Giving to ensure coordinated donor strategies. What Success Looks Like in the First 12 Months Established clear portfolio standards and review rhythms that support consistent donor movement. Built trusted working relationships with Foundation leadership, physicians, and key internal partners. Advanced multiple six-figure or transformational opportunities toward solicitation or commitment. Delivered $3.5M–$6M+ in combined personal and direct reports’ fundraising results. Created a stronger culture of focus, accountability, and strategic thinking across the major gifts team. Qualifications and Experience 10–15+ years of progressive experience in major gifts fundraising, preferably in a hospital or academic medical center. Demonstrated success securing six- and seven-figure gifts. 3+ years recent experience managing frontline fundraisers. Ability to partner effectively with physicians, executives, and boards. Demonstrated judgment in balancing opportunity, organizational readiness, donor intent, and timing. Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree or CFRE preferred. #J-18808-Ljbffr VHC Health
