Histology Technician

Essential Job Functions: Assists in specimen processing, data entry, and accurate documentation of quality control activities. Performs manual histology techniques and operates laboratory instruments per established protocols, including embedding and microtomy of paraffin and frozen sections using tissue processors, balances, pH meters, and related equipment. Selects, performs, and monitors staining procedures, ensuring reagent adequacy, appropriate stain selection, control material use, and quality of stained preparations. Mounts coverslips on slides and ensures accurate labeling according to laboratory standards. Operates, monitors, and maintains laboratory equipment following manufacturer guidelines and institutional policies. Maintains a clean, organized, and hazard-free work environment; ensures proper disposal of biohazardous and chemical waste. Monitors inventory levels, prepares orders for supplies as needed, and prepares solutions and reagents following standard operating procedures. Adheres to departmental internal controls and complies with all laboratory safety protocols. Education & Experience: Minimum Requirement: Associate’s degree or equivalent. No prior experience required. Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications: Required: Certification in Histology (HT) by the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP), or the ability to obtain certification within 12 months of hire. Excellent diagnostic and problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to propose multiple solutions. Proficiency in using personal computers and standard office software, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Ability to manage and protect confidential and sensitive information. Effective critical thinking and decision-making skills.
