About the Role
The Company is in search of an Associate General Counsel to take on a pivotal role at the intersection of AI, biosecurity, and national security. The successful candidate will be the primary legal partner for the company's Center on AI, Security, and Technology, providing guidance on a wide range of legal issues in these fast-evolving and high-stakes domains. This hands-on position requires an attorney with at least 9 years' of experience, a detail-oriented and problem-solving mindset, and the ability to work effectively under pressure. The role involves partnering with technical teams, drafting and negotiating various agreements, counseling on technology transactions, and supporting engagement with government partners. The ideal candidate will have a background in national security or government settings, experience with AI tools, and a strong commitment to the mission of the company. Applicants for this role at the company should be prepared to tackle novel legal issues and be adept at providing sound judgment in ambiguous situations. Collaboration, collegiality, and the ability to build consensus with diverse professional groups are essential. While not all candidates will have experience in every area, a background in export control regulations, cybersecurity, or federal government contracting is a plus. The role also offers the opportunity to work on special projects and to be involved in areas aligned with the candidate's skills and interests. A J.D. and a license to practice law are required, with a preference for candidates licensed in California, Virginia, Pennsylvania, D.C., or New York. U.S. citizenship is mandatory due to the security clearance requirements of the position.
