Tractor Technician

Job Title: Tractor Technician Department: Maintenance Location: Portland, Oregon, United States Employment Type: Full time Job Summary Under close supervision, this position is responsible for performing basic maintenance, service, and repair of J.B. Hunt tractors and other equipment. Technicians must complete all fleet maintenance processes and ensure that units meet J.B. Hunt specifications at all times. The role may involve outdoor work, working across shifts including nights and/or weekends, and overtime. Key Responsibilities Demonstrate foundational technical knowledge of preventative maintenance, replacement of parts/components, and basic repairs related to tractor maintenance (fuel system, battery, engine, drivetrain, onboard computer, transmission, air brake systems) Perform FHWA inspections Work independently and seek assistance as needed Follow all shop safety procedures Maintain professional communication with J.B. Hunt personnel and customers Accurately perform basic repairs to company and manufacturer's specifications, complete work orders, and demonstrate proficiency in company requirements for standard repair times (SRT) and warranty guidelines Shift Schedule Shifts may vary based upon location and business needs. Qualifications Minimum 18 years of age, 1 year of experience in semi-tractor maintenance and repair or equivalent military or training experience Willingness to work outdoors, in the elements, and on multiple shifts including nights and/or weekends when required High School Diploma or GED equivalent (preferred) At least 1 year of experience in DOT inspections, FHWA inspections, and air brakes Effective written and verbal communication skills Physical ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs Ability to multitask, read documents, use basic computer, and wear appropriate PPE Basic active listening, deductive reasoning, organizational, time-management skills and self-motivation Compensation Competitive pay ranges based on skills, education, experience, geography, and other qualifications.
