State and Local Tax Associate

Job Overview A law firm seeks a State and Local Tax Associate in Short Hills, NJ. This role offers the opportunity to work on complex tax matters across various industries and jurisdictions, collaborating with a cross‑office team. Duties Support clients on corporate income and franchise tax matters. Advise on sales and use tax issues. Handle property tax and payroll tax concerns. Assist with personal income tax matters. Provide controversy, audit defense, and litigation support. Engage in tax planning, structuring, and transactional analysis. Collaborate with partners and senior attorneys on multi‑state tax projects. Requirements 3‑5 years of dedicated State and Local Tax experience. Experience with corporate income, franchise, sales, use, property, payroll, and/or individual income tax matters. Exposure to controversy or litigation is a plus. Experience with tax planning and restructuring preferred. Strong research, writing, communication, and organizational skills. Ability to work collaboratively across offices and disciplines. Education: JD degree from an accredited law school. Certifications Admitted to practice in the state in which they are officing. Skills Excellent written and verbal communication abilities. Strong research, analytical, and problem‑solving skills. Attention to detail and good business judgment. Ability to work collaboratively and independently.
