Registered Nurse (RN) - Security Care Unit - Rotating - PRN

The Clinical Nurse I role integrates technical skills and theoretical knowledge to meet the needs of patients and families. The responsibilities include preventing illness and injury, maintaining wellness, providing comfort, directing and educating the care team, and delivering accurate, age‑specific documentation and medication administration based on medical orders and a multidisciplinary plan of care. The Clinical Nurse II role demonstrates mastery of clinical skills and applies this knowledge to a specific patient population. This position recognizes changes in patient conditions, mobilizes resources to meet individualized needs, provides direction and education, assumes leadership responsibilities at the unit level, and performs all duties listed for the Clinical Nurse I. The Clinical Nurse III role builds on unit‑level clinical knowledge and further applies it to a specific patient population. This level anticipates changes in patient situations, serves as a role model, leads by example, and performs all Clinical Nurse II duties. Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire Current RN licensure in Virginia or an eligible/compact state for Clin I, Clin II, and Clin III. Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Continued Employment Current RN licensure in Virginia and AHA BLS HCP certification or equivalent for Clin I, Clin II, and Clin III. Experience Required Clin I: N/A Clin II: 12 to 24 months RN experience Clin III: 3 years of clinical experience Experience Preferred Clin I: Experience as an LPN, nursing assistant, or care partner in an acute care setting or relevant area of practice. Clin II and Clin III: Academic health‑care experience and experience with a similar patient population in an acute care setting or relevant area of practice. Education/Training Required Clin I, Clin II, and Clin III: Diploma or Associate’s Degree from a professional nursing program recognized and/or approved by the state’s Board of Nursing. All registered nurses without a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing will be required to enroll in an approved RN to BSN program within two years of their start date and complete the program within five years unless grandfathered under previous requirements. Education/Training Preferred Clin I, Clin II, and Clin III: Completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or higher from an accredited program. Clin III: Certification in a specialty area. Independent Action(s) Required Follow documented physician/licensed independent provider orders. Practice within the boundaries of Virginia nursing regulations. Guidance by the ANA Code of Ethics for Nursing and established national nursing practice standards. Adherence to VCUHS policies and procedures and established practice. Supervisory Responsibilities (if Applicable) Organize work and delegate and supervise others (RNs, LPNs, care partners, unit secretaries, etc.) in carrying out assignments for Clin I, Clin II, and Clin III. Additional Position Requirements Clin I, Clin II, and Clin III clinicians work all three shifts, weekends and holidays. Individual shift rotations and schedules will be established with the specific Nurse Manager/Practice Manager. Schedules, including shift rotation and hours of work, may be adjusted as necessary to meet unit requirements and/or needs. Age Specific Groups Served: As appropriate based on unit assignment. Physical Requirements Physical: Lifting 20‑50 lbs. Other: Exposure to potentially hazardous and infectious substances. Activities: Prolonged standing, prolonged sitting, frequent bending, walking (distance), climbing (steps, ladder, other), reaching (overhead, extensive, repetitive). Mental/Sensory: Strong recall, reasoning, problem solving, hearing, spoken clarity, legible writing, reading, logical thinking. Emotional: Fast‑pace environment, steady pace, handling multiple priorities, frequent and intense customer interactions, noisy environment.
