Supervisor, Reagent Manufacturing - 2nd Shift

Our Reagent Manufacturing Supervisor will be leading a team of full-time and contractor technicians responsible for production execution across the entire Reagent Manufacturing value stream.

This role will report to our Manager, Reagent Manufacturing and will be a 2nd Shift San Diego basedrole .

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

• Directs manufacturing leads and team members to ensure day-to-day production goals and schedule commitments are met
• Accountable for the shift's key performance indicators and the team's completion of the daily production schedule; ensures the team meets or exceeds manager expectations
• Establishes production schedules and priorities with manager oversight and ensures execution of the schedule is efficient and optimized
• Contributes to technology transfer and new product introduction as the voice of Manufacturing. Responsible for successful pilot/development runs and consults the manager on decisions impacting the broader team
• Partners with Process Engineering and other support groups to enable troubleshooting and continuous improvement. Focuses on resource management, impact analysis, and improvements to safety, quality, efficiency, and throughput
• Collaborates with the Quality team to maintain adherence to quality systems, procedures, operating standards, and applicable compliance requirements
• Partners with the Manager and Human Resources on hiring, performance, promotion, and termination decisions. Provides major input on FTE decisions, is responsible for contractor hiring, and executes the approved hiring plan
• Accountable and responsible for the team's training program, including on-time completion of training assignments, accurate training plans, a robust OJT program, and appropriate ad-hoc, awareness, and remedial training
• Responsible for tactical coaching and development of team members and contributes to strategic team development in consultation with the manager. Provides leadership to a diverse workforce and supports ancillary production activities as needed
• Ensures team adherence to the Employee Handbook, company policies, environmental health and safety requirements, and safe work practices across formulating, filling, and kitting operations
• Key contributor to ECO/DCO/NCR documentation. Authors selected technical documentation, owns area-specific WI/BR/SOP redlines, and contributes to higher-level Manufacturing documentation

Education and Experience:

• Bachelors in science, engineering, or a related discipline is preferred with 2+ years of relevant manufacturing/engineering experience in life sciences, biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or diagnostic manufacturing
  • An equivalent combination of experience and education, including a high school diploma plus equivalent progressive experience, may be considered
• Prior experience leading or supervising manufacturing personnel is required
• Relevant experience in the life science industry is preferred
• Knowledge of ISO 13485 is preferred
• Advanced understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles and Six Sigma methodologies; Green Belt training
• Strong verbal, written, and presentation skills; able to lead shift start-up/Tier I meetings and small-to-medium meetings
• Proficiency in people skills with sufficient emotional intelligence; collaborates effectively across teams and delivers tactful constructive feedback to direct reports
• Demonstrated competency in critical thinking and problem solving, including outside-the-box problem solving
• Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Excel, and manufacturing/workplace systems such as Jira, Confluence, 42Q, Arena, NetSuite, ERP, QMS, or similar platforms
• Understanding of key manufacturing processes and technical elements, including basic DNA and sequencing principles, sufficient to enable effective troubleshooting and provide feedback on minor ECOs/DCOs
• Ability to perform descriptive data analysis using basic and intermediate statistical techniques and apply insights to root-cause analysis, process improvement, communication, and business decisions
• Basic understanding of the wider business context, manufacturing finance, and ISO 13485 requirements
• Ability to work in a fast-paced and technically challenging environment with strong ownership and mostly autonomous execution of day-to-day responsibilities
• Strong inclination toward continuous improvement, talent development, and building a collaborative, high-performing team

Physical Requirements:

• This is a Second Shift position – 2pm – 10:30pm PST, Monday-Friday
• Ability to lift up to 20 pounds
• The position requires physical activity and the handling of chemicals. Candidates are required to follow the safety protocols and be familiar with personal protective equipment (PPE) while working in the laboratory environment

Base Compensation Pay Range:

• $102,000 - $125,000

In addition to base compensation noted above, you will be eligible for stock options, discretionary annual bonus, no cost health insurance plans, 401k with company match, and flexible paid time off.
