Senior Laboratory Coordinator (Correlative Lab) Cancer Center

Job Summary Senior Laboratory Coordinator (Correlative Lab) at the University of Kansas Cancer Center. Responsible for coordinating oncology clinical trial specimen and supply collection, processing, and shipping for pharmacokinetics, pharmacogenomics, and ancillary studies in industry-sponsored, cooperative group, and investigator-initiated clinical trials. Responsibilities Maintain in-depth knowledge of specimen collection, processing, and shipping requirements; accurately obtain, document, process, and manage serial specimens (blood and other bodily fluids) from trial participants. Coordinate collection of central study samples and required assessments in collaboration with nursing, study coordinators, physicians, and patients. Request and ship research-related pathology specimens for the Clinical Trials Office; collaborate with Tissue Repository staff and follow IATA/DOT guidelines. Perform study-specific ECGs and transmit data per study protocol schedule. Assist with training, mentoring, shadowing, and onboarding of junior staff as directed. Travel between the Clinical Research Center, Westwood Facility, Indian Creek Campus, and KU Health System Hospital for meetings, kit drop-offs, and transport of study specimens. Verify accuracy and properly store study flowsheets. Provide timely email responses and query resolution to sponsors, monitors, nursing, study coordinators, etc. Collaborate with data coordinators during onsite monitor visits and audits; provide organized patient lab charts and lab documents. Maintain meticulous documentation with minimal data entry errors. Attend kick‑off meetings and assist management with site initiation visits. Reference and maintain study protocols and central lab manuals. Maintain inventory of study supplies: maintain kit amounts, destroy kits and create NTFs, submit supply orders, update inventory spreadsheets, and prepare orders for satellite sites. Perform accurate data entry into hospital and laboratory information systems per policies and compliance requirements. Ensure specimen integrity: proper patient identification, correct specimen collection, and proper transport. Use EMR (Epic) and Outlook lab calendar to schedule collections and courier appointments. Participate in weekly lab rotation, daily patient assignments, and Friday handoff emails. Work Environment Medical laboratory environment handling equipment and samples; additional work in a general office setting. Required Qualifications 4 years of relevant work experience (education may substitute on a year‑for‑year basis). 1 year of laboratory assistance and laboratory technician experience. Preferred Qualifications Previous laboratory clinical trial experience. Previous oncology experience. Familiarity with medical terminology. Skills Interpersonal, time‑management, organization, attention to detail, multitasking, and communication skills. Critical thinking and computer proficiency.
