About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Neuro Telemetry Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12 Hours Days Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Required Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS, COVID Vaccine Required Must-Have: 2-3 years of experience in specialty; open to first-time travelers Description: This unit has 22 beds. Common diagnoses include Stroke, TIA, Seizure, TBI, and mixed Medical Telemetry. Nurses do not titrate drips. Common titratable and set-rate drips include Heparin gtt, Amiodarone gtt, Cardizem gtt, and DKA set rate or protocol. Telemetry monitoring is centralized with two monitor technicians. Nurses must be able to read and interpret telemetry strips and pass a dysrhythmia exam. There is one Nurse Shift Manager and one Resource/Break RN; they do not take patient assignments. There are 1-2 unit aides available. Equipment includes Bipap, Cpap, and High Flow Nasal Cannula; no vents are available. Shifts are scheduled 3 weeks in advance with self-scheduling by seniority. Weekend requirements include working 4 weekend shifts in a 4-week schedule. Holiday requirements include working into permanent staff rotation. There is no call or standby requirement. Travelers may float to IMCU or Med/Surg departments. Scrub color is navy. The unit is busy, usually at full capacity. The focus is on Bedside Shift Report and enhancing Patient Experience. Travelers should be self-motivated and team-oriented. Cancellation policy allows for up to 4 shift cancellations per 13-week assignment. Charting system used is Cerner. BSN is not required. This is an acute care setting with a Trauma Level of 2.
