Details Acute care Level 2 trauma hospital setting in a 26-bed MICU Nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:1-2, occasionally 1:3 when short staffed Common diagnoses include cardiac arrest, sepsis, neuro surgical cases, DKA, induced hypothermia, GI bleed, and angioedema (no trauma cases) Charting completed in Allscripts EMR Nurses must titrate drips including pressors, sedation, paralytics, antiarrhythmics, and insulin Nurses must independently read and interpret their own telemetry strips (no dedicated tele techs) Respiratory therapists manage CPAP, BiPAP, vents, and trachs, while nurses administer breathing treatments Charge nurse role does not carry a patient assignment and responds to codes/RRTs Night shift schedule, 12-hour shifts from 7pm-7:30am Weekend requirement of at least 2 weekends per 4-week schedule (Saturday & Sunday) May be required to participate in holiday rotation No call or standby requirements Floating required to stepdown unit at a 1:3-4 ratio, with travelers floated first Scrubs must be royal blue Unit-specific orientation includes 2 days classroom and 1 day with a preceptor Requirements Active NY RN license required BLS and ACLS certification required; CCRN preferred Minimum 1 year of MICU experience required BSN not required for this position Must be able to titrate all common ICU drips Must be able to independently interpret telemetry strips Additional Information Work alongside in-house fellows/residents 24/7, with attendings available but not always on-site 2 RTs staff the ICU 24/7 to manage respiratory equipment PCT support includes 3 aides on day shift and 2 on night shift Travelers are asked to remain flexible with scheduling to help fill gaps in permanent staff coverage Excessive call-ins may be taken seriously and could impact continued assignment First-time travelers may be considered for this role American Traveler Job ID P-750453.
