Internal Medicine Consultant (North America Remote)

Position Overview Internal Medicine Consultant serves as a trusted peer resource for veterinary clients, providing accurate and timely medical consultation in all areas of small animal internal medicine. The role focuses on diagnostic reasoning, test selection and interpretation, treatment planning, monitoring, and disease prevention for dogs and cats. Responsibilities Deliver peer-to-peer medical consultation to veterinary clients with professionalism, warmth, and empathy—providing expert guidance on laboratory result interpretation, test selection, and case management. Develop and maintain superior knowledge of all offerings and services, including proprietary testing and in‑house diagnostics. Cultivate and strengthen collegial rapport with clients throughout the consultation process. Contribute actively to team culture by supporting colleagues, sharing clinical knowledge, and participating in the development of internal learning materials and resources. Support consultation services and collaborate across departments as needed. Attend consultant meetings and continuing education seminars. Participate in special projects or creation/delivery of client support materials as opportunities arise. Education & Experience Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) degree or equivalent with an active license in the state or province of residence. Residency trained and board‑certified in Small Animal Internal Medicine (ACVIM or EVCIM). Minimum 5 years clinical experience after completing board certification. Fluency in English (both spoken and written) is required; bilingualism (specifically fluency in French) is a plus. Required Skills & Abilities Outstanding verbal communication skills in phone and in‑person settings, including active listening, thoughtful questioning, and the ability to translate complex medical concepts into clear, collegial guidance. Excellent written communication skills across all professional formats and contexts. Commitment to medical excellence, demonstrated through engagement with emerging literature, consensus guidelines, and knowledge of diagnostic offerings. Ability to translate knowledge into practical, client‑centered guidance that considers client goals and constraints. Proactive, self‑directed learning and knowledge retention, with a growth mindset and passion for continuous improvement. Proactive problem‑solving, recognizing opportunities, developing practical recommendations, and seeing them through to completion. Technological fluency across multiple IT platforms and enthusiasm for learning and adapting as tools evolve. Highly organized, with the ability to prioritize, multi‑task, and perform effectively in a fast‑paced environment. Self‑directed and productive in a remote work setting, requiring minimal supervision. Working Environment This remote position is performed from a home office. Physical requirements include extended periods of computer‑based work and manual dexterity for keyboarding, as well as communication via phone and video. A reliable high‑speed internet connection is required. Preference will be given to candidates available for a full‑time 40‑hour schedule, though candidates interested in fewer than 40 hours per week are encouraged to apply.
