Health Information ClerkLocation: 12401 Washington Blvd., Whittier, CA 90602Duration: 13 Weeks (Contract) Shift: Day Shift (Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM)Position SummaryThe Health Information Management (HIM) Clerk is responsible for processing and managing patient health information under the direction of the HIM Director or designated supervisor. This role includes collecting, retrieving, preparing, scanning, and filing medical records, as well as assisting healthcare providers and staff with information requests. The HIM Clerk ensures accuracy, confidentiality, and compliance with all regulatory standards.Key ResponsibilitiesCollect, retrieve, and deliver medical records for patient care.Process daily surgical lists and discharged patient records.Track and log medical records to maintain accurate location status.Follow up on missing or incomplete records.Prepare, scan, index, and file medical records and loose documentation.Verify patient identifiers (name, medical record number, account number) on all documents.Maintain and clean scanning equipment according to department policy.Answer and route telephone calls appropriately.Assist physicians and staff with health information requests.Prepare records for storage (scanning/boxing) or destruction when required.Meet daily productivity and quality standards.Support departmental projects as assigned.Compliance & SafetyMaintain strict confidentiality of patient information in compliance with HIPAA and regulatory requirements.Adhere to hospital safety policies and procedures.Promote a safe and organized work environment.Follow ethical standards aligned with organizational values.Required Skills & CompetenciesKnowledge of medical records and documentation standards.Ability to manage both alphabetical and numerical filing systems.Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.Effective verbal and written communication skills.Ability to multitask and maintain accuracy in a fast-paced environment.Professional, courteous, and cooperative demeanor.Basic computer proficiency (Windows environment).Typing speed of at least 30 words per minute.Clear and legible handwriting.Education & ExperienceRequired:High School Diploma or GEDBasic knowledge of Windows-based systemsPreferred:Experience with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systemsKnowledge of medical terminologyPrevious experience in HIM or medical office settingsValid California driver’s license, insurance, and vehicle registrationPersonal AttributesDetail-oriented and highly organizedPunctual and dependableStrong interpersonal and communication skillsAbility to prioritize tasks effectivelyPositive attitude and professional appearanceSelf-motivated with the ability to utilize time efficientlyCapable of working in a high-volume environmentMaintains a clean, safe, and orderly workspaceAdditional ExpectationsDemonstrates consistent productivity and performance.Understands and applies hospital and departmental policies.Communicates effectively with individuals of all age groups.Takes initiative and reports availability for additional work when tasks are completed.
