Principal Network Engineer

Salary: $114,600 - 234,600 per year Requirements:

• We look for deep experience designing, implementing, and operating L3/L4 network services across data center and cloud environments.
• We expect hands-on knowledge of IP addressing, routing protocols such as BGP, OSPF, and IS-IS, and EVPN/VXLAN fabrics.

• We design and lead resilient L3/L4 network topologies, overlays, and routing strategies across on-premises and cloud environments.
• We define high-availability, ECMP, and traffic-engineering patterns and validate them through testing, failure simulations, and phased rollouts.
• We create design documentation and coordinate technical reviews, including rollout, rollback, and verification planning.
• We implement and operate cloud networking components such as subnets, routing, NAT, transit architectures, service endpoints, and inter-cloud connectivity.
• We tune L4/L7 load balancing and service insertion to meet service objectives and cost targets.
• We engineer network security controls, segmentation, and compliance guardrails, and we work with security teams to support audits.
• We review rulebases and routing policies to remove redundant or hidden rules and reduce exposure.
• We build and maintain reusable infrastructure-as-code modules and automation, along with validation, drift detection, rollback, and canary tooling.
• We promote GitOps, configuration modeling, and source-of-truth inventory practices.
• We implement monitoring, telemetry, dashboards, alerts, and runbooks, and we use them to support capacity, performance, and incident analysis.
• We partner with SRE, platform, and security teams on architecture, incident response, remediation, and capacity planning.
• We participate in on-call response and complex changes, helping minimize risk and downtime.
• We maintain high-quality network diagrams, inventories, and operational documentation.
• We mentor junior engineers through reviews, pairing, and knowledge sharing.
• We manage moderately complex workstreams, prioritize across projects, and help evaluate candidates and hiring decisions.
