START DATE: start of the 2026/2027 School Year (August 31, 2026) WORK YEAR: 184 days, the school year & professional development days. Job Description Our mission is to provide a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment. This role supports all students academic and social‑emotional development. Duties & Responsibilities Meet with assigned students grades 9–12 at least once per year to develop/ review academic and college/career plans. Meet with juniors and seniors on ongoing basis for college planning and application process. Provide support to students experiencing academic, behavioral, emotional, or social issues that affect progress. Exercise crisis intervention skills and refer at‑risk students to the school social worker. Consult regularly with special education department, school nurse, school social worker, administration, parents, community, and other human service professionals. Participate in student course registration each spring and resolve scheduling conflicts. Review report cards and progress reports; recommend improvement plans for under‑performing students. Facilitate group counseling sessions when possible. Attend and participate in parent information evenings such as college planning, financial aid, transition between grades 8 and 9. Conduct group workshops on vocational interest testing, academic planning, college admissions, and socio‑emotional topics. Schedule parent/teacher conferences when needed. Administer standardized testing on an ongoing basis. Qualifications Preferable experience with Naviance. Knowledge of counseling theories and techniques. Knowledge of theories of childhood, adolescent, and adult development. Knowledge of child/adolescent behavioral dynamics, especially abnormal social or emotional behavior. Knowledge of therapeutic treatment forms, intervention strategies, and referral processes. Effective individual and group counseling skills. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Proactive outreach to students, parents, teachers, special educators, administrators, and community. Ability to collaborate with professionals to develop corrective strategies for at‑risk students. Knowledge of career development theories. Knowledge or strong interest in college and career planning, admissions process. Job Requirements Three to five years as a special educator, social worker or BCBA. MA DESE certification as a guidance counselor (5‑12, 8‑12, or 9‑12). Masters’ Degree preferred. Assessment of Performance Assessment by the Principal. Salary & Benefits Per agreement between the Georgetown School Committee and Georgetown Education Association. Eligible for health insurance.
