Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated individual to assist during surgical procedures, ensuring the maintenance of a sterile surgical field and providing necessary instrumentation to the surgical team. The successful candidate will participate in unit activities aimed at ensuring high-quality patient care and will function under the direction of a Registered Nurse.

Essential Job Functions

• Demonstrate expertise in sterile and aseptic technique and apply knowledge of human anatomy and surgical procedures in the performance of invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.
• Maintain and verify the integrity of all surgical items, checking for proper packaging, processing, moisture content, seals, indicators, and expiration dates to ensure a safe operating environment.
• Monitor the sterile field to prevent contamination and promptly address any events that may interfere with the surgical procedure, notifying the supervising personnel of necessary corrective actions.
• Work towards achieving or demonstrating competency with Tier 1 surgical cases.
• Flexibly contribute to the ongoing delivery of individualized patient care within professional scope of practice.
• Communicate effectively and participate fully in the perioperative team processes, including time-out briefings and debriefings.
• Assist in patient transports, room turnover, and preparation for surgical procedures.
• Exhibit professionalism by staying current on new technologies, procedures, and instrumentation.
• Clean and prepare surgical instruments for terminal sterilization.
• Promote and role model the principles of a Just Culture within the organization.

Qualifications

• Completion of a Certified Surgical Technologist program and/or Licensed Surgical Technologist.
• Current licensure as a Surgical Technologist in the state of Colorado is required.
• BLS certification by the American Heart Association is required.
• Must possess or be able to obtain necessary computer skills within 90 days to complete online learning requirements and access relevant online forms and policies.
• Proficiency in English, including reading, writing, and speaking, is essential.
