CNA II Position

The CNA II performs specific responsibilities under the direction and supervision of a licensed nurse and functions within the framework of hospital standards and values. The CNA II will be expected to perform all tasks as outlined in the NC Board of Nursing CNA II scope of practice list. CNA II may also be required to handle administrative tasks and perform diverse duties for nursing department.

Responsibilities include:

• Following departmental guidelines for absences and tardiness.
• Complying with allotted break and meal times.
• Being flexible with and participating collaboratively with unit self scheduling.
• Resolving staffing conflicts.
• Participating in temporary assignment measures of department.
• Attending at least 75% of unit staff meetings, and mandatory unit or hospital based in-services.
• Participating in elective education offerings.
• Practicing collaboratively with colleagues and other members of healthcare team.
• Ensuring shift reports and communications are timely, pertinent and accurate.
• Following established infection control/stand precautions policies and procedures.
• Responding quickly and appropriately to emergency situations.
• Being aware of standard of practice for profession or specialty and integrating such into daily practice.
• Demonstrating an awareness of self-responsibility and accountability for own professional practice.
• Collecting, reporting and documenting data including intervention (i.e. vital signs, height, weight and mobility). Intake and output in a timely and accurate fashion.
• Performing technical skills and comfort measures that provide for the patients plan of care and personal hygiene (i.e. feeding, bathing, elimination assist, incontinence skin care, wound care, ostomy care, catheter care, heat and cold treatment) as delegated by the Registered Nurse.
• Assisting with admission, discharge, and transfers of patients as directed by the RN.
• Ambulating, positioning and turning patients as delegated by RN.
• Assisting with patient safety related to age and condition.
• Assisting with patient specific safety precautions.
• Collecting, reporting, and documenting data related to patient safety.
• Providing and maintaining a clean, safe environment and performing and/or assisting others to perform proper aseptic technique, isolation procedures and infection control measure.
• Preparing and assisting patient during examination, procedures and treatments, assisting MD and RN with such as needed.

Minimum Requirements include:

• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
• High School Diploma or equivalent- or higher.
• Successful completion of Nursing Assistant II Course, current certification as CNAII in the state of North Carolina, current listing on the CNAII Registry with the North Carolina Board of Nursing.
• American Heart Association BLS certification required upon hire.

Location: The Outer Banks Hospital.

Shift Requirements: PRN.

Hours: Part-time.

Weekends: Yes.
