Job Description

This is an indefinite position that may convert to permanent without further competition. JOB SUMMARY: The purpose of this position is to perform maintenance, repair, and inspections on small arms and related devices. The primary purpose is to provide maintenance repair and accurization of national match weapons. NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. This is an excepted position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the Connecticut Army National Guard. The major duties include, but are not limited to:

• Performs accurization of national match weapons (pistols, rifles, and light machine guns) on a limited basis.
• Disassembles weapons, assemblies, subassemblies and other components.
• Performs overhaul, maintenance, and repair on a variety of small arms.
• Uses micrometer to measure altered tolerances and makes additional adjustments as required.
• Is responsible for accountability, storage and security of arms and other sensitive items while they are kept for repair, usually in vaults with limited access.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Works in shop buildings that are well lighted, heated, and ventilated. Stands on concrete floors or other hard surfaces for long periods. Exposed to oil, grease, and solvents when cleaning and lubricating weapons. Frequently exposed to the possibility of minor cuts and bruises from tools or sharp edges of metal. Subject to noise when test firing weapons.

PHYSICAL EFFORT:

Frequently lifts subassemblies or small weapons weighing 15 to 20 pounds. Often carries large assemblies or weapons weighing up 50 pounds. Work requires walking, bending, and long periods of standing.
