Work Shift Day (United States of America) Job Summary: The Medical Assistant functions under the direction of the Physician, Clinical Lead, Clinical Nurse Supervisor, Nurse Supervisor and/or Office Manager. Recognizes patient's needs and symptoms in advance. Provides care for the patient under the physician's direction. Includes preparing patient for exams, assisting during treatments, coordinating tests and follow-up care and recording treatment in the medical record. Assists with explaining patient instructions to the patient/family. Demonstrates competency and skills to serve patients of all ages including neonate, infant, child, adolescent, adult and geriatric populations. Performs other duties as necessary related to front office registration, laboratory testing, and radiology functions within a specialty setting. Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions: Clinical Duties and Expectations Provides relationship-based, patient centered care that is consistent with population specific characteristics (e.g., age, gender, disease, etc.) in a manner that adapts service delivery to reflect an understanding of cultural diversity.Partners with the patient and significant others and/or family (as appropriate); keeping the patient at ease in the office through a collaborative and communicative approach to all care rendered.Prepares patient for the visit with the physicians/APPs.Prepares rooms and equipment, and aids physicians/APPs with treatment of patients.Carries out orders generated from the office visit. Responds to patient requests generated outside of the office visit.Maintains the safety needs of the patient at all times.May be required to support front office operations by assisting with check-in, check-out, scheduling, and other non-clinical functions.Exemplary Practice and OutcomesProvides patient care in accordance with recognized clinical practice guidelines and standards set forth by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or similar organizations.Adheres to federal, state, and local laws and regulations as well as organizational and industry standards for clinical care.Upholds all health care system/organizational and WMG policies and procedures and clinical competencies put forth by this job description.Teamwork and CollaborationCollaborates with providers, nurses, and clinical staff to uphold continuity and consistency of care.Participates in daily huddles, staff meetings, and medical group, or system workgroups/committees to represent the voice of the medical assistant.Demonstrates teamwork and collaboration by practicing in an inclusive manner that promotes the recruitment and retention of all healthcare team members.Participates in quality improvement initiatives to ensure alignment with best practices in medical assisting.May be asked to serve as a preceptor to assist in the onboarding and/or training of new team members, trainees, or students. Clinical and Non-Clinical Duties and Expectations a. Register patient upon entrance to facility b. Perform all necessary registration operations c. Prepare equipment and rooms and aid physician with treatment of patients d. Perform vitals and other duties to prep patientse e. Rotate among various clinical and non-clinical service areas such as lab, x-ray, and front office f. Main safety needs of the patient g. Cross train other team members Diagnostic Imaging Duties and Expectations a. Perform radiographic and other diagnostic imaging procedures to assist clinical team and physicians in treatment of the patients b. Prepare and position the patients for imaging procedures ensuring all proper techniques including radiation protection c. Obtain optimum views as ordered by the physiciand d. Process images and review for proper identification and quality control e. Cross train other team members f. Complete and maintain logs, reports, and documentation Laboratory Duties and Expectations a. Properly start lab equipment daily and maintain daily logs and documentation requested b. Perform laboratory tests according to orders and instructions c. Draw blood samples from patients and perform Point of Care testing d. Order and stock supplies weekly e. Perform daily quality control and cleaning procedures according to guidelines f. Cross train other team members Professional Development and Initiative Completes all initial and ongoing professional competency assessments, required mandatory education, and population-specific education. Coordinates the delivery and documentation of safe quality patient care that promotes the professional care delivery model. This includes, but is not limited to diverse and inclusive interdisciplinary communication methods (huddles, interdisciplinary rounds); completion of timely documentation and promotion of a respectful, inclusive clinical environment b.
