Software Engineer

The Non-Kinetic Effects Business Area, part of the Defense Sector at Leidos, currently has an opening for a cleared Software Engineer to work in our Beavercreek, OH Office. This role supports a diverse portfolio of programs, including software design and development, hardware interfacing, laboratory experimentation, ground and flight testing to deploy next-generation solutions for the Air Force Research Lab, Air Force Lifecycle Management Center, and other DoD missions. Primary Responsibilities Design, develop and maintain mission-critical software for national defense and intelligence gathering products for both airborne and ground-based systems. Participate in laboratory, ground and flight testing to validate software. Document and communicate proposed software solutions with integrated, cross‑functional engineering teams in a fast-paced, highly technical environment. Stay up to date on state-of-the-art programming techniques and software technologies. Participate in software design and code reviews to ensure delivery of quality products and enhance skillsets. Basic Qualifications Bachelor’s degree and 2+ years of prior relevant experience or a Master’s degree with 0‑2 years of experience in software engineering, computer engineering or related field. Experience programming in one or more of the following languages: C++, Java, Python. Experience in systems integration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of complex system problems. Experience working in a SIL environment. Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally in informal one‑on‑one discussions or in a small group environment. Work well within a team and independently with minimal supervision. Ability to work within a dynamic work environment, handle multiple tasks at once. Strong desire to grow and learn new technologies. Must be a U.S. Citizen. Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Preferred Qualifications Active DoD TS/SCI clearance. Familiarity with Agile Methodologies, preferably SCRUM or Kanban. Experience with Atlassian tools such as JIRA, Confluence, Bitbucket. Experience with model and simulation environments to support simulation and test. Experience with Live and Virtual Constructive environments to understand complex systems and troubleshooting points for integration. Familiarity with DoD Open Architectures such as OMS and SOSA. Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker or Podman. Experience with Kubernetes. Experience developing and deploying to offline environments. Strong understanding of Linux systems. Experience with Unit Testing and CI/CD. Strong understanding of IP‑based network protocols such as TCP, UDP, and Prior experience working with the DoD. Pay Range $69,550.00 – $125,725.00 (general guideline only; actual compensation may vary).
