Fiber Technician

Fiber Technician – Full-time The Fiber Technician will support the installation, maintenance, and repair of fiber optic cables across Underground, Direct Bury, and Aerial systems. This role requires critical thinking, strong communication skills, and the ability to provide excellent customer service. Duties and Responsibilities Splice/terminate fiber optic cable according to standard procedures and applicable specifications. Maintain, test, and measure fiber optic signal strength using test equipment from street to premise. Install telecommunications services by correctly connecting cables at vault/tap, installing temporary drops, wiring inside premises, and installing fiber optic equipment at customer sites. Communicate clearly and professionally with customers, technical staff, and supervisors. Operate hand tools, including drills, saws, Optical Power Meters (OPM), and Volt Ohm Meters (VOM). Maintain vaults and taps as needed; report maintenance requirements to supervisor. Travel to sites as required, using company vehicles and complying with safety and traffic regulations. Access cables, pedestals, and equipment by climbing ladders, entering crawlspaces or attics, and traversing challenging terrain. Maintain equipment, tools, and vehicles; submit necessary clerical forms (time, mileage, gas tickets, and charge‑outs). Perform additional related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications High School graduate or General Education Diploma. Telecommunications experience (Fiber, Telephone, CATV) preferred. Strong verbal communication skills with customers, employees, and management. Valid driver’s license and safe driving record. Knowledge of current industry terminology, procedures, and equipment preferred. Ability to work in confined spaces such as attics and crawl spaces, and tolerate environmental conditions associated with confined spaces. Ability to work from a ladder while using hand tools. Additional Qualifications Desired Ability to read and interpret construction drawings. Basic understanding of service order flow and processes. IPTV/ADSL installation and repair experience.
