Campus Security Officers are responsible for the comfort, safety,and security of the students, faculty, staff, and visitors toHusson University. Security Officers maintain a safe environmentand minimize the potential for loss or damage of all propertycontrolled by Husson University by conducting high visibilitypatrols on foot and in University-owned vehicles, monitoring CCTVequipment, and monitoring radio communications. Officers provide awide variety of services to our campus community and are expectedto proactively seek opportunities to provide excellent customerservice. Security Officers enforce Husson University rules and regulations,the Community Conduct Code, and coordinate with law enforcement inenforcing state statutes. Security Officers recognize potentialsafety concerns and take measures to mitigate these concerns.Security Officers respond to disturbances and mitigate disruptiveconduct, respond to emergencies as needed, and coordinate with alllocal, county, and state agencies as necessary to maintain thesafety of Husson University. Security Officers may serve in a dispatch role, facilitatingcommunication with officers, directing them to respond to requestsfor service, and providing pertinent information necessary tomaintain a safe and secure environment for students, faculty,staff, and visitors to Husson University. Security Officers alsocoordinate with all local, county, and state agencies as necessaryto maintain the safety of the Campus. Example of Duties Provide prompt, courteous services to students, staff andvisitors. Work a full-time schedule, evenings, or overnights, includingweekends and holidays as necessary. Must be available to cover other shifts due to absences,inclement weather, or other unforeseen circumstances. Attend and/or complete all departmental and University trainingrequirements to include CPR/AED certification. Maintain complete knowledge of and comply with all departmentalpolicies & procedures. Perform lead Security Officer duties in the absence of asupervisor. Maintain complete awareness of Husson University Campusproperty, life safety systems, and emergency plans including theproper use of fire extinguishers. Maintain the confidentiality of all departmental and Universityinformation and paperwork. Be well-groomed and properly wear the issued uniform. Appropriately maintain all issued duty equipment Monitor and operate a two-way radio utilizing proper radioprotocol to maintain FCC & NIMS compliance. Must have appropriate report-writing skills, as well as theability to utilize electronic reporting systems. Patrol University property to prevent and detect signs ofintrusion, theft, and life safety concerns. Provides safety and traffic control during Campus events. Ensure all necessary doors and buildings are properlysecured. Ensure resolution of any safety concerns noted during yourshift. Monitor and regulate as necessary building systems includingbuilding boilers, as well as refrigerator and freezer units. Monitor CCTV and review as necessary for security andinvestigations. Answer telephone calls, take messages, answer questions andprovide information. Enforce University rules & regulations and notify violatorsof infractions including the issuance of parking tickets. Escort students, staff, faculty, and visitors to variouslocations on as necessary. Investigate suspicious activity, security issues, and criminalincidents. Gather and process evidence and properly document it in verbaland written reports. Respond to accidents and medical emergencies and provide FirstAid and CPR Respond to disturbances and emergencies on Universityproperty Write technical reports to document incidents andinvestigations, as well as daily activities. Coordinate emergencies until a supervisor arrives on thescene. Contact the Associate Vice President of Security or designee asneeded during emergencies. Contact local police and fire departments as necessary and actas a liaison between these agencies and the University asneeded. Escort and remove undesirable persons from the Campus. Apprehend suspects and use departmentally approved restrainttechniques as necessary, including but not limited to pepper spray,baton, and handcuffs. Keep a daily dispatch log of calls, events, andactivities. Create digital and hard-copy documents and forms asneeded. Perform a daily inventory of first responder keycards andmaps. Maintain working knowledge and the ability to use all Safetyand Security systems and technology platforms. All other duties as assigned Qualifications High school education or equivalent required. At least 6 months of security, military, or law enforcementexperience is preferred. Must have attention to detail and respond promptly andprofessionally when necessary. Be able to prioritize, organize, and follow up whenneeded. Have a clear command of the English language and be able tocomplete computer-generated reports. Be a clear thinker, display the ability to remain calm, andshow good judgment when resolving problems. Follow directions thoroughly, speak and interact with students,staff and visitors as necessary. Work cohesively with co-workers as part of a team. Work with minimal supervision. Maintain confidentiality of departmental and Universityinformation Safely operate motorized vehicles, bicycles, and otherdepartment-owned equipment Must possess a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in thestate of Maine. Must be certified or have the ability to be certified in FirstAid, CPR/AED, and other equipment as assigned.
