Core Responsibilities

Ensure customer satisfaction by properly preparing, trimming, washing, wrapping, and displaying various fresh and prepared produce items while strictly adhering to Department of Health sanitation guidelines and Country of Origin Labeling (C.O.O.L.) regulations.

• Preparation & Display: Prepare, trim, wash, wrap, price, and label produce items. Transport merchandise to the sales floor and display items neatly in designated locations. Maintain display quality throughout the shift by arranging, trimming, watering, rotating, and refilling produce.

• Receiving & Inventory Support: Receive freight, verify delivered items against invoices, and write credit claims for shortages or damages as needed. Assemble special orders, assist with department inventory, order supplies, and visit other store locations as required.

• Department & Facility Maintenance: Keep sales floor aisles, prep rooms, and walk-in chill boxes clean, safe, and organized. Perform hourly sweep log duties, clean display cases and mirrors, mop floors, pick up floor debris, and bale cardboard rubbish.

• Customer & Team Engagement: Promptly, courteously, and efficiently greet, assist, and thank all shoppers. Make shelf talkers/signs, report price errors to the POS department, answer phone calls, and respond to PA pages.

Working Conditions & Physical Demands

• Environment: Frequently work indoors in cold, wet, and high-volume customer environments to wash vegetables and stock displays. Seldom work outdoors in heat, rain, or humidity—with potential exposure to volcanic haze (vog) or equipment exhaust—to discard trash or receive freight.

• Physical Effort: Continuously stand throughout the shift. Frequently walk, bend, reach, use fine motor skills to test produce firmness, and rely on color vision to build eye-appealing displays and assess freshness. Frequently use knives to trim produce. Occasionally lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 lbs (and up to 300 lbs when using a produce cart, stock wagon, or pallet jack). Seldom climb ladders or sit to operate forklifts.

• Equipment Use: Frequently use stock wagons, knives, and price guns. Line-use wrapping/pricing machines, cardboard balers, brooms, mops, telephone systems, forklifts, and pallet jacks. Seldom use ladders or company delivery vans.

• Safety: Continuously wear a back support belt while performing job duties.

What You Bring

• Age Requirements:

  • Must be at least 16 years of age to work in a walk-in chill box/freezer and use a case cutter or knife.

  • Must be at least 18 years of age to operate a trash baler, freight elevator, or power-driven equipment.

  • Must be at least 18 years of age with a valid Driver's License and company certification to operate a forklift or drive company vehicles.

• Skills & Knowledge: Basic math skills for taking inventory and ordering merchandise. Strong organizational and multitasking skills to accomplish tasks on time. Clear oral and written communication skills to interact effectively with co-workers, vendors, and store management.

• Work Habits: Friendly, positive, and customer-focused demeanor. Detail-oriented, punctual, self-motivated, and capable of working independently under minimal supervision.

• Availability: General availability 7 days a week and holidays, typically between 4:30 AM and 8:00 PM.
