Job Description
The HVAC Service Technician installs, maintains, and repairs heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems for residential and commercial customers. This role reads and interprets technical documentation, ensures all work complies with applicable codes and regulations, and delivers clear guidance to clients on system operation and maintenance. The technician works closely with team members to complete projects safely, efficiently, and on schedule while maintaining accurate service records.
Responsibilities
- Install or repair HVAC systems, including furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps, ductwork, and related components according to specifications and industry standards.
- Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications to plan and execute installations and repairs accurately.
- Perform routine maintenance and inspections on HVAC systems to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot HVAC system issues, identify root causes, and recommend effective repair solutions.
- Conduct repairs and adjustments on HVAC equipment using appropriate tools and techniques.
- Ensure all installations, repairs, and maintenance activities comply with local, state, and federal codes and regulations.
- Use mechanical, electrical, and construction knowledge to complete installation and service tasks safely and efficiently.
- Communicate clearly with clients about system operations, maintenance requirements, and recommended improvements.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of installations, repairs, inspections, and service calls.
- Collaborate with team members and supervisors to coordinate tasks and complete projects on time.
- Use hand tools and other equipment properly to perform construction, installation, and preventive maintenance tasks.
- Follow safety procedures and best practices while working in various environments, including confined spaces and elevated areas.
Essential Skills
- Proven experience in HVAC installation or a related field, typically 1–3 years.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to install, repair, and maintain HVAC systems.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications.
- Hands-on skills in HVAC installation, repair, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Experience working with hand tools and construction-related equipment.
- Solid understanding of HVAC systems, including furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps, and ductwork.
- Strong electrical aptitude related to HVAC systems and components.
- Ability to diagnose system issues and recommend appropriate solutions.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with attention to detail and safety.
- Effective communication and customer service skills when interacting with clients and team members.
- Ability to lift heavy equipment and work in confined spaces as required by the job.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- HVAC certification or technical school training preferred.
- Valid HVAC technician license, as required by applicable state or local regulations.
- EPA Section 608 Certification for handling refrigerants.
- Experience performing preventive maintenance on HVAC systems.
- Familiarity with construction environments and related practices.
- Strong organizational skills for maintaining accurate service and installation records.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a field-based role.

Work Environment
This role primarily involves field-based work at residential and commercial sites, with some time spent preparing and documenting jobs. You will work with HVAC equipment such as furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps, and ductwork, using hand tools and other mechanical and electrical tools daily. The position may require working in confined spaces, such as crawl spaces or attics, and in various weather conditions. Hours can vary based on project schedules and service calls, and you may occasionally handle physically demanding tasks, including lifting and positioning heavy equipment. Safety practices and adherence to codes and regulations are central to the work environment.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.00 - $32.00/hr.
