This role sits within our Flatbed Solutions business unit and partners with independent contractors, agents, Operations, Maintenance, Compliance, and support teams to help promote safe, compliant operations across the business. The role supports safety programs, training, evaluations, and continuous improvement efforts that help protect people, equipment, and our customers.

You'll help support safe operating practices across Flatbed Solutions by delivering training, reviewing safety trends, conducting evaluations and inspections, and partnering with independent contractors, agents, and operational teams to address risks before they become problems. This is a highly visible role where you'll spend time educating, coaching, evaluating, and helping others apply safety best practices in real-world situations.

How You'll Work

• Location: Onsite in Birmingham, AL
• Job Schedule: Monday-Friday (8:00 AM-5:00 PM or 7:00 AM-4:00 PM)

What You'll Do

• Deliver and support safety orientation, recurring training, and educational programs for independent contractors, agents, trainers, and support teams
• Review inspections, citations, incidents, and safety information to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement
• Communicate safety, regulatory, contractual, and operating requirements while coordinating appropriate follow-up activities
• Conduct safety observations, ride-alongs, operating evaluations, and field assessments
• Inspect equipment, loads, freight securement, yards, facilities, and operational areas to identify potential safety concerns
• Maintain training, inspection, qualification, and compliance documentation
• Partner with Operations, Maintenance, Compliance, independent contractors, agents, and support teams to promote consistent safety practices across the business
• Recommend practical improvements to training, communication, equipment, and operating practices based on safety findings
• Review and provide guidance to independent contractors, agents, and internal staff on open deck cargo securement, and permitted over-dimensional loads
• Support Gold Standard safety performance through education, prevention, and continuous improvement initiatives.

What You Bring

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Experience in transportation safety, fleet operations, regulatory compliance, training, or a related field
• Experience in open deck load securement, and with permitted over-dimensional size and weight freight
• Working knowledge of Department of Transportation (DOT), Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), Hours of Service (HOS), and transportation safety requirements
• Ability to review safety information, identify risks, document findings, and recommend appropriate follow-up actions
• Ability to deliver training, communicate safety requirements, and work effectively with independent contractors, agents, and internal teams

Going the Extra Mile

• Associate degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
• Experience supporting independent contractors, agents, or multiple transportation operating models
• Experience delivering orientation, safety training, or other adult learning programs
• Experience evaluating commercial vehicles, trailers, loads, freight securement, or operational environments
• Experience using safety, compliance, training, telematics, or event-recording systems
• Knowledge of FMCSA regulations
• Experience using safety, compliance, training, telematics, or event-recording systems
