Radiologic Technologist

$24.1 - $57.66 per hour

Performs a variety of technical radiologic procedures using standard, portable and/or specialized x‑ray equipment to apply prescribed ionizing radiation in order to assist physicians in diagnosing and treating patients' illnesses and injuries. Performs related tasks such as assisting patients in positioning for correct anatomical exposure, maintaining order and cleanliness of work area and performing routine clerical tasks. Hiring Range: $24.10 - $57.66. The final offer may vary within this range based on a candidate’s experience, skills, qualifications, and internal equity considerations. Major Responsibilities Prepare patient for exams, ensuring comfort and modesty; verify patient identification and obtain informed consent or contrast questionnaire when appropriate; consult with radiologist regarding contrast administration and imaging protocols. Assist in patient transfer if needed, position and instruct patients to obtain desired diagnostic results as specified by the physician. Follow department policies and procedures; adjust techniques as required by physician, supervisor or self‑improvement initiatives. Protect unaffected body areas from radiation exposure according to safety standards. Select proper technical factors and equipment appropriate to the patient and examination; position patient and equipment to achieve images specified by protocol. Evaluate images for proper identification and diagnostic quality; adjust techniques and factors when necessary; check equipment and accessories for proper operation. Operate imaging equipment per diagnostic procedures; maintain computed radiography and direct imaging equipment; review electronic images for quality and completeness; use portable x‑ray equipment in patient rooms, surgery or other settings when transfer is not feasible; transfer or duplicate films/images as directed. Follow PACS workflow procedures; work with electronic work lists, repair exceptions; ensure all images meet quality standards including correct patient demographics and accession numbers; complete all exams in RIS in a timely manner; work independently with comprehensive knowledge of modality policy, procedures and workflow. Initiate hard stop when appropriate and notify staff. Monitor patients receiving contrast for adverse reactions; notify staff if required; explain procedures to patients and families; address questions and concerns. Assist physicians in specialized examinations by preparing equipment, syringes and contrast media, holding and turning patients, administering contrast media and passing instruments and supplies; organize sterile supplies for special procedures; ensure proper imaging and equipment according to Universal Protocol. Ensure images, requisitions and related records are properly completed for identification, billing and statistical purposes; prepare images for reading by radiologist. Work as a radiographic technologist and perform duties in other areas and/or modalities as needed; maintain competence by rotating into radiology areas as assigned. Report hazardous conditions or equipment breakdown immediately; remove defective equipment from service. Maintain work area clean and orderly; ensure examination rooms are properly supplied; initiate requisitions for supplies as required. Practice ALARA principles of Radiation Protection, including use and exchange of personal dosimeters. Standard Staffing Level Responsibilities Comply with departmental policies, procedures and objectives. Attend meetings, conferences and seminars as required or directed. Demonstrate use of Quality Improvement in daily operations. Comply with health and safety regulations and requirements. Maintain reliable and predictable attendance. Perform other similar and related duties as required or directed. II. Position Qualifications All responsibilities are essential job functions. License / Certification / Education RTR licensure in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts (includes a temporary 1‑year MA license). ARRT certification in Radiology required within 12 months from date of hire as a condition of continued employment. BLS certification. Some specialty modalities may require additional formal training and certification. Experience / Skills Maintain area‑specific CEUs for ARRT and DPH according to regulation. Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed may be substituted. Department‑specific competencies will be developed and maintained in individual departments and attached to the job description. III. Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions Work is medium intensity. Position requires indoor work in a normal patient care environment.
