Our teams are awesome, and we are committed to our community and the very special place that is Steamboat Springs, Colorado!Job DescriptionCoordination and supervision of community recreation programs and licensed day care programs.Works under the general supervision of the Recreation Supervisors.Supervises and provides support to part-time personnel and volunteers in Youth, Teen, Seniors or Sports programs.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesServes as an ambassador of the City of Steamboat Springs and upholds City values of Service, Teamwork, Integrity, Well-being, Respect and Compassion, while espousing safety at all times.These duties and responsibilities are to be performed in cooperation with the Recreation Manager and Youth, Teen & Sports Supervisors. They are subject to change according to the changing demands of the service community. The required duties and responsibilities are not limited to those listed here. Duties are currently related to the following programs: Afterschool Program, ASSET Clubs, School Days Off, Kid's Night Out, Summer Camps, ASSET Camps, Teen Programs, Youth Sports League, Adult Sports Leagues, Teen Council, SOS outreach, Town Challenge Races.Assists in updating and managing immunization records, therapeutic recreation forms, medication administration, and emergency plans, as needed for participants.Assist Registration Specialist as needed with enrollment, registration, family paperwork, and family profile maintenance within registration software.Coordinates and manages the planning, implementation, and follow up for recreation programs, including vender inquiries, program scheduling, coordinating transportation among groups, parent communication, and program evaluation.Recruits, hires, trains, and manages seasonal staff and volunteers, ensuring adequate staffing for scheduled programs as required by the State of Colorado Dept. of Human Services. Completes seasonal evaluations as needed. Work with other program staff to schedule and manage substitute staff when needed.On-Site Director to lead programs and transport children in City vehicles, including 15 passenger vans (on the job driving training provided).Analyzes existing programs and recommends new programs to enhance variety currently offered. Remains up to date on current trends in programs and activities.Serve as liaison between program participants (i.e. venders/families) and Recreation Division. Respond to public inquiries by phone, email, text, and other means as required.Prepares for publication a variety of brochures, calendars, letters, posters, news releases, flyers, and related communications regarding recreation programs.Maintain the inventory and physical quality, cleanliness and safety of any program supplies, facilities, equipment, tools, food, and vehicles.Record and track budget expenses to ensure programs remain within budget guidelines.Assist with updating and upgrading staff, operating, and reporting manuals and forms. Assist with maintaining staff records in compliance with state licensing rules and regulations. Maintain personal trainings and certifications as required by the state.Perform other related duties as assigned.Special RequirementsMust pass pre-employment Drug and Alcohol Screen;Motor Vehicle Record must show that you have not accumulated more than four points on your license on the past three years; andMust not have has a DUI in the past 7 years or a DWAI in the past 5 years.Peripheral DutiesAttend staff meetings and trainings, divisional, departmental, and organizational.Serves as a member of various employee committees, as assigned.Assumes the responsibilities of the Youth Program Supervisor in his/her absence.Desired Minimum QualificationsEducation and Experience:Must be School Age Director qualified by State of ColoradoTwo years of experience working in the recreation field; orAn equivalent combination of education and experience.Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Considerable knowledge of recreation philosophy, planning and administration; Considerable knowledge of the equipment, facilities, operations and techniques used in a comprehensive community recreation program.Skill in operation of listed tools and equipment; Ability to coordinate and direct varied activities involved in a community recreation program; Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, other agencies, participants, instructors, community leaders, and the general public; Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; Ability to plan and supervise the work of paid staff and volunteers.Ability to drive for up to four (4) consecutive hours during day and night hours.General knowledge of State of Colorado licensing rules and regulation, Colorado Department of Health and the Environment rules and regulation.Applicants with a background or active certifications in Therapeutic Recreation will be strongly considered.Special Requirements:Valid state driver's license.First Aid and CPR certification.Ability to obtain all certifications as required by the State of Colorado Dept. of Early LearningTools and Equipment Used: Personal computer, including word processing and recreation software; calculator; copy machine; phone; mobile or portable radio; automobile; pick-up truck, or 15 passenger vanPhysical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Merit: This role is eligible for our merit within our pay-for-performance philosophy via our annual performance review process. Hires after September 1st will take the next year's compensation data into account but would not be eligible for merit until the following year.
