Essential Functions Receive formal training for a period of 6–12 months in the objectives, methods and techniques of meat and poultry inspection. Under close supervision, perform antemortem inspection of live animals and/or poultry prior to slaughter for conditions indicative of abnormalities or diseases. Successfully complete the Employee Development Guide and related training courses to become familiar with food inspection laws, regulations, manuals and inspection procedures. Travel to, attend, and participate in workshops, meetings, institutes, and other activities to gain learning experiences for meat and poultry inspection. Perform other duties as required or assigned within the scope of the duties enumerated above. Minimum Qualifications Knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to the completion of high school (preferably with courses in algebra, biology, or chemistry). Preferred Qualifications Completion of education beyond high school, ideally an associate or bachelor’s degree in science or agriculture. Experience in the butchering, slaughtering, or processing of animals for food. Experience observing postmortem examinations of animals. Working knowledge of Hazard Analysis – Critical Control Point Plans (HACCP). Working knowledge of Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOP). Elementary knowledge of disease or abnormal conditions of animals, poultry, carcasses, or meat and poultry products. Elementary knowledge of how to identify adulterated product. Conditions of Employment Completion of name‑based background screening and self‑disclosure of criminal history. Pass a pre‑employment physical. Ability to travel and hold a valid driver’s license. Work may include evenings and weekends, and overtime is anticipated. Robotic work requires lifting no more than 20 pounds at a time; involves walking, standing, and occasional pushing or pulling. Residency in Clinton, Washington, or St. Clair County is required. Tolerate exposure to unpleasant odors, extreme cold and heat in slaughterhouses and processing areas.
