Job Description

The Quality Control Inspector performs detailed dimensional and visual inspections throughout the production cycle to ensure products meet customer, regulatory, and internal quality requirements. This role uses precision measuring equipment and coordinate measuring machines (CMMs), including Faro Arm and Keyence systems, to verify conformance for nuclear, Department of Energy (DoE), Department of Defense (DoD), and AS9100/ISO9001 projects. The inspector supports the quality assurance program by accurately documenting inspection results and maintaining full traceability across all stages of production.

Responsibilities

• Perform first article, in-process, and final dimensional inspections using conventional precision measuring equipment such as calipers, micrometers, and digital height gages.

• Conduct precise dimensional inspections at every stage of production to verify products meet drawing specifications, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) requirements, and customer quality standards.

• Use CMMs, Faro Arm, and Keyence equipment to perform advanced measurements and confirm product conformance on complex components.

• Perform receipt inspection of incoming materials, parts, and consumables to ensure they meet specified requirements before release to production.

• Execute quality control witness and hold points per work travelers and production documentation to maintain process control.

• Interpret engineering drawings and apply GD&T principles to plan and perform inspection activities accurately.

• Document all inspection results clearly and accurately, ensuring traceability throughout the production cycle.

• Support compliance with AS9100 and ISO9001 quality standards and other applicable regulatory and customer requirements.

• Interface with customers and production personnel to address quality-related questions, provide inspection feedback, and support resolution of issues.

• Participate in audits and quality assurance activities as needed to maintain and improve the quality management system.

Essential Skills

• Hands-on experience performing dimensional inspections using precision measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and digital height gages.

• Ability to interpret engineering drawings and apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) concepts to inspection work.

• Proficiency using coordinate measuring machines (CMMs) for detailed dimensional verification.

• Experience working with Faro Arm measurement systems for advanced inspection tasks.

• Experience using Keyence measurement or inspection equipment in a production environment.

• Understanding of quality assurance principles and practices, including documentation and traceability of inspection results.

• Ability to perform first article, in-process, and final inspections in a manufacturing or machine shop setting.

• Familiarity with AS9100 and ISO9001 quality standards and their application in production and inspection activities.

• Strong attention to detail and accuracy when measuring, recording, and reviewing inspection data.

• Effective communication skills for collaborating with production teams and interacting with customers on quality matters.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience supporting quality assurance programs for nuclear, DoE, or DoD-related projects.

• Experience in a machine shop or precision manufacturing environment.

• Comfort working with structured work travelers and documented QC witness/hold points.

• Ability to participate in and support internal and external quality audits.

• Strong problem-solving skills and a continuous improvement mindset aligned with excellence in quality.

• Ability to work independently while maintaining accountability for inspection accuracy and completeness.

Work Environment

You work in a machine shop environment that supports precision manufacturing and inspection activities. The standard schedule is first shift, Monday through Friday, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with the potential to transition to four 10-hour shifts depending on operational needs. The setting involves regular use of precision measuring equipment, CMMs, Faro Arm, and Keyence systems, alongside typical shop tools and machinery. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Chattanooga, TN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $35.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
