Field Service Mechanic - Heavy Equipment

Position Overview

The Field Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining a wide range of mobile and support equipment in active field environments. This role places a strong emphasis on hydraulic systems, electrical diagnostics, and powertrain troubleshooting, supporting uptime across fleet and jobsite equipment.
Regular travel is required, including work at remote locations.
Typical schedules include 10x4, 9x5, or 8x6, with alternative schedules considered based on operational needs.

Key Responsibilities

Demonstrate a strong commitment to safety policies, procedures, and jobsite best practices
Diagnose and repair hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems on mobile and support equipment
Troubleshoot electrical faults including wiring, sensors, switches, charging systems, starters, and control circuits
Utilize diagnostic tools, software, and test equipment to identify failures and determine corrective action
Repair or replace damaged, worn, or failed components in field conditions
Perform inspections, routine servicing, and documentation of completed work
Dismantle, repair, and reassemble components using hand tools, hoists, and service equipment
Read and interpret service manuals, schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation
Perform welding and light fabrication as needed to complete repairs or modifications
Maintain accurate service records and communicate equipment status to operations and leadership
Exhibit a strong work ethic, adaptability, and a willingness to learn new systems and equipment

Qualifications

Hands-on experience with drilling rig systems, high-pressure hydraulics, and mobile haul equipment preferred
Familiarity with rig power, hydraulic circuits, and electrically controlled mobile equipment is a plus
Experience troubleshooting large-frame mobile equipment used in drilling or material movement preferred
Experience working on OTR trucks, engines, and auxiliary equipment
Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot complex failures independently
Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record
Ability and willingness to travel, work outdoors, and perform duties in all weather conditions
Ability to work effectively under time constraints and shifting priorities
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to evaluate information and determine effective solutions
Ability to maintain a professional, team-oriented attitude in demanding conditions
