Many excellent general liability lawyers never make the move to partner because they assume the first question will be "how much business will you bring?" At this firm, that isn't the first question. A portable book is preferred, but it is not required.

I'm Ryan Jaiswal at Distinct Recruitment, and I'm hiring a Litigation Partner in Miami on behalf of an insurance defense firm with a strong general liability practice.

What the role involves

- Leading a general liability defense docket: premises liability, negligent security, products and commercial liability claims

- Trying cases and setting trial strategy across the team's files

- Managing carrier relationships and keeping clients informed and confident

- Supervising and developing associates, including giving them their own depositions and hearings

- Contributing to the growth of the Miami practice

About the book

If you have a portable book, great. It will shape the conversation about compensation, and the firm will be interested in how to grow it. If you don't, that's fine too. Plenty of excellent defense lawyers have spent their careers servicing institutional clients rather than originating their own. The firm understands that and values the skill.

- Hybrid working from Miami

- 1,900 billable hours

- $200,000+, negotiable depending on book and experience

- A senior seat where your opinion shapes how the practice runs

A thought on timing

The jump from senior associate or counsel to partner rarely happens at the firm where you started as a junior. People there still see the version of you from years ago. A move gives you the chance to be judged on what you can do now.
