Internship Opportunity

The Office of Emergency Preparedness and Response and Medical Operations is the Colorado Department of Public Health's resource for preparedness, response and recovery efforts during daily operations and in response to threats to Colorado's health and medical systems. The Public Health and Medical team works to prepare for, respond to, and recover from threats to the public health and medical systems serving EMS, fire, dispatch, healthcare facilities, RETACs, and HCCs in collaboration with other state agencies and federal partners.

What You Will Do: Management Support Staff Internship

This project allows a student to work on stakeholder engagement, process improvement, internal and external communications, and understand volunteer management and coordination across Colorado's region serving public health needs in preparedness to serve Colorado's communities when resources are strained during public health emergencies. The program manager will work with the intern to ensure academic requirements are met for the internship.

Objective 1: Support daily operations of Colorado's Volunteer Management program by attending meetings related to volunteer management, responding to internal and external stakeholder inquiries, and entering data into the Volunteer Management electronic platform for volunteer processing.

Objective 2: Participate in mentorship on meeting etiquette, training and access to processing volunteers in the state platform, and mentorship on communications, and participating in process improvement initiatives that follow public health best practices.

Objective 3: Gain competencies in public health practices in program operations and stakeholdering and supports completing daily operations of the program.

Key Responsibilities:

• Internal and external partner communications verbally and orally.
• Participation in stakeholdering processes, meetings, communications specific to public health best practices.
• Process Improvement initiatives participation as part of public health practices.

Education: A applicant must be a current or recently graduated (within the past 3 calendar years) Masters student from an accredited college or university in Public Health.

In addition to the minimum requirements, the successful candidate in this position will have the following highly desirable experience and competencies:

1. Proficient communications written and verbal in English.
2. Competence to navigate google platform applications including docs, forms, and sheets.
3. Ability to ask questions and seek mentorship when challenges arise.
4. Ability to work independently and integrate into small work groups.
5. Ability to focus and complete data entry with accuracy and validate data entry.
