Ophthalmology Assistant

Job Description Assist with patient visits, scheduling appointments and diagnostic procedures. Maintain equipment and instruments and order supplies. Perform patient analyses and analyses of glasses, lensometers, and document vision tests. Conduct visual fields, HRT, and other tests as ordered by the physician and for contact lens lessons. Maintain efficient patient flow. Clean and sterilize equipment and instruments. Prepare the examination room, escort patients into the room and clean the room after examinations. Schedule appointments accurately and appropriately according to department guidelines. Complete referrals according to departmental guidelines. Use Electronic Health Record (EHR) appropriately and timely. Perform chart preparation. Communicate to supervisor appropriately and promptly. Reconcile encounters daily according to policy and guidelines. Answer the telephone in an appropriate manner, direct calls and take accurate messages. Confirm future appointments as needed. Reconcile Televox cancellation list. Obtain, verify, and update patient information, including demographics, insurance, HIPAA forms and financial waivers. Submit detailed accurate records and payments to the accounting department daily. Accurately document allergies and reconcile medication lists in EHR. Physical Job Requirements Pushing and pulling, taking frequency and weight into consideration. Physical mobility, movement from place to place on the job, taking distance and speed into account. Physical agility to maneuver body while in place. Dexterity of hands and fingers. Maintain balance during climbing, bending and/or reaching. Endurance required for continuous typing, prolonged standing/bending, walking. Environmental Risks Exposure to chemicals, chemotherapy, fumes. Loud noises, vibration, extreme temperatures. Confined spaces, dust, mold, pollen, magnetic fields, radiation, sharps, latex. Blood‑borne pathogens and other infectious hazards from patient specimens. Unplanned or unexpected exposure to infection. Education & Experience High School Graduate/GED / Equivalent required. Vocational / Technical School / Diploma Program preferred. 0 – 1 years experience; 2–4 years experience preferred. BLS certification required. Ability to communicate in English, orally and in writing. Knowledge of vision procedures required. Knowledge of sterilization processes required. Knowledge of vision equipment/instruments required. Experience with Ophthalmology equipment/instruments preferred. Experience with standard office equipment (Phone, Fax, Copy Machine, Scanner, Email/Voice Mail) preferred. Experience with standard office technology in a Windows‑based environment preferred. Experience with patient care equipment preferred. Experience with EHR, Practice Management System and Departmental/Ancillary Systems preferred. Pay Range $22.79 – $28.03 Hourly Benefits Medical, Dental, Life, Disability, Vision, FSA coverages and a 401(k) savings plan.
