Hiring Department Neurosurgery Job Description The Department of Neurosurgery is pleased to announce the opening of a position for a Physician Assistant – Specialty Care. This individual will act as a physician extender for the collaborating surgeons in the Neurosurgery Department. Duties include independently providing assistance in a multidisciplinary practice for adult patient populations; performing essential patient care functions, including diagnosing and treating neurosurgical patients in the clinic; performing physical examinations, ordering diagnostic tests, and performing or assisting with minor procedures; assisting in the evaluation and assessment of potential surgical candidates; obtaining and documenting a complete and focused history and physical and being able to relate other aspects of medical information to the surgeons and physicians; participating in the Missouri Telehealth Network by providing Telemedicine return clinic appointments via Polycom connection; identifying trends related to patients and participating in quality improvement activities, helping to guide the development and implementation of structure, process, and outcomes standards; actively participating in clinical research as needed; assisting in the operating room as required; performing and leading minor procedures with opportunities for growth; assisting with inpatient consultations; and demonstrating a high level of autonomy and expert skills in the diagnosis and treatment of actual and potential health problems. Other duties as assigned. Shift Monday through Friday – 12 hour shifts (minimum 2 shifts per month) Minimum Qualifications Physician Assistant (PA) licensure by the Missouri State Board of Registration for the Healing Arts. Preferred Qualifications Specialty certificate by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) in Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery, Emergency Medicine, Hospital Medicine, Nephrology, Orthopaedic Surgery, Pediatrics, or Psychiatry. Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department.
