Description of Work

The Programs Director I reports to the Correctional Associate Warden of Programs and is responsible for directing and monitoring programs for the rehabilitation of offenders housed in the prison system. Job responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Administering programs having a broader scope and complexity of programming and/or assisting the Associate Warden with offering a variety of program services for the offender population.
- Directing a major program in a region or statewide basis. The primary programs areas are offender classification; correctional programs (including incentive wage, educational/vocational, volunteer programs, religion, cognitive-based interventions, and recreation); and correctional supportive counseling.
- Overseeing offender case management conducted by subordinate staff.
- Coordinating programs with custody, medical, mental health, and other facility staff.

Salary Range: $43,267 - $75,718

About the Division of Institutions :

The Division of Institutions manages the daily operations of all state-operated prison facilities across North Carolina. Facilities are categorized by custody levels (minimum, medium, close) and house individuals serving sentences for felony convictions. The division provides safety, security, and rehabilitative services through trained custody staff, program facilitators, and administrative personnel.

About Pender Correctional Institution :

Pender Correctional Institution is located in Burgaw, North Carolina and houses up to 768 male offenders in a medium custody facility.

Bachelor’s degree in a human services or criminal justice field from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of experience in correctional programs management or related work
